John Calipari and Joel Justus in to see local four-star talent Kyky Tandy

Just about halfway through his weekly radio show tonight, John Calipari announced he had to cut his appearance short to hit the recruiting circuit.

“I’ve gotta go do some recruiting, folks,” said Cal. “I’m out tonight. But I’ll be back early, I’m not going that far.”

According to local sports analyst Chris Jung, he won’t even be crossing state lines.

Coach Cal will be in Henderson County tonight for the 2nd Region Championship to see four-star Hopkinsville native Dekeyvan “Kyky” Tandy.

Earlier today, Jung announced assistant coach Joel Justus would also be in attendance to see the dynamic University Heights guard.

They have officially arrived.

Tandy, the No. 117 junior in the nation according to, visited Kentucky last weekend during their 87-66 blowout victory over Missouri.

After the visit, Tandy told SEC Country’s Joe Mussatto that he was “shocked” seeing all of the new Kentucky facilities, going as far to say it stood alone from the rest of college basketball.

“It was a great experience,” Tandy said. “I was shocked. Like their locker room and stuff is crazy. It was a great facility. I don’t think any college got that.”

Mussatto also got the chance to talk to Tandy’s coach, Grant Shouse, about the visit, who said his 6-foot-2 guard is extremely interested in being the next great local talent to suit up in blue and white.

“Obviously being a Kentucky kid he really, really likes the thought of being there,” Shouse said. “He really enjoyed his visit, talked very highly of the facilities, the players and just their length and athleticism. Being in Rupp Arena on the floor down there gave him a great sense of what it would be like.”

Kentucky has yet to offer, but they might need to soon if they want a major shot at landing the dynamic guard. Averaging 31.6 points per game on 61% from the field and 45% from the three-point line, Tandy’s recruitment is already heating up. He currently holds offers from Tennessee, Oklahoma, Florida, and Iowa State, among others.

Here are Tandy’s highlights from his recent 34-point outing:

Bring him on home, Coach Cal.

Agree. I would hate to see Tandy go to Tennessee or Auburn and if Cal hadn’t showed up tonight, I would be worried that he would end up at one of those two places. Here in Henderson we had heard that his dad wanted to see more interest from UK, so Cal showing up tonight tells me that they are hearing his dad, one, and two, they are interested in him. Travis Ford and Ray Harper are at the game too

Kid is explosive. Curious as to why Cal would be interested in this kid but not the Quentin gooden or the kid at western lighting it up. Sometimes I just have to shake my head. He paints himself into a corner sometimes in terms of numbers. He has 3 guards on this team, not nearly enough. I knew all along knox was no 2 guard.

His nickname is “KyKy”? Sounds like he’s destined to play at Kentucky.

If this kid ends up at Tenn. Cal needs to be tared and feathered.

We don’t need him, he doesn’t have a 44.5 inch vertical.

When did he become a four-star? Seems like KSR was talking about him as a three-star within the last couple of days.

Rivals has him as four-star, 247 has him as a three-star. He’s going nowhere but up, so might as well cut the cord now. He’s a four-star.

Went for 33 tonight in front of Cal and Travis Ford. Hit two big free throws while he was cramping up. This kid can play…

Pretty good looking athlete, AND basketball player. Play that stood out to me was sweet left-handed shovel pass to a teammate for easy two. Agree with Jay17282 comment regarding former in-state kid Chris Lofton who went on to star at UT…..we don’t need that repeated!

Think he’s already signed to NKU but would have liked for him to give Trevon Faulkner at Mercer Co. a look.

Saw him play a couple weeks ago. He had an off night, but was still able to get teammates involved and never moped. Great to see that on an off night.
