Joey Lunardi releases 2018 Bracketology and we should ignore it but we can’t

lunardi-toosoon

If you think the way-too-early preseason rankings are pointless, you must really hate the first Bracketology of the 2018 season.

Joe Lunardi released his first NCAA tournament projection for next season and he has Kentucky as the No. 2 seed playing out west. Arizona is the No. 1 seed, Gonzaga the No. 3, and I can’t believe we are talking about this.

I have no earthly idea how Lunardi formed his prediction a whole 11 1/2 months ahead of time, but here it is:

So stupid.

No UL, KU, Duke, UNC? Lunardi has clearly lost his mind.

I’m picking the 12-5 upset now. Write it down, Princeton takes Purdue.

Someone unplug Joe and put him back in the attic until around January.

This ain’t a bad draw but why the heck are we a 2 seed and were ranked #1 according to ESPN?

If we had seniors instead of freshman we would be a 1 seed! Damn you Cal and your #1 recruiting class every year! Please go out and find some 3 and 4 star players who stay 3-4 years and win a title every 4 years when they are seasoned veterans!!

What happens if that chance every four years does not work though? I present to you…Tubby Smith

A few things of note from some pre-season information. UK, Florida, Aggies, Bama, Commodores all expected to be top 25. Missouri will also be a contender with their recruiting class. Tennessee, Arkansas, and South Carolina should not be forgotten either. SEC is no longer a joke and this will help us greatly. Makes sense as to why Florida and UK are so high up.

I think other important points is how next years regions greatly play to our advantage! The two regions with Nashville in 1st/2nd rounds are South and West next year and the winner either plays someone close to Boise or Detroit. The Nashville/Boise winner goes on to play in LA (hence the Arizona 1 seed). And the Nashville/Detroit Regional would be played in C-Atlanta. Additionally, Charlotte first and second round filter into Omaha and Boston which in theory should allow us to not have to play more dynamic ACC teams as well until later in the tournament.

Of course, I can forsee us still getting a bad bracket. However, next years draw SHOULD be the best we have seen in years considering the whole regional placement BS.
