Jeff Goodman would take Julius Randle, not Andrew Wiggins, with the No. 1 pick

Jeff Goodman encourages everyone to hold off on calling the 2014 NBA Draft the “Andrew Wiggins Sweepstakes.” It’s not going to be that way, he says. Goodman, if he held the first overall selection in next summer’s draft, would take Julius Randle with that top pick.

Here’s why:

Randle was a wannabe Kevin Durant during his head-to-head matchup with Wiggins, preferring to play on the perimeter instead of posting up with his intimidating frame. No one insisted he do work where he’s best-equipped to do so, and that’s in the paint. That won’t be the case in college, when Kentucky coach John Calipari will force Randle to get in the post and use his power, quickness and athleticism to provide a mismatch for just about any opposing big man.

Randle can be an unstoppable force. He’s big, extremely strong and ultra-athletic, and he plays with a high motor. He’s got a defined position at power forward, and his game will easily translate to the next level. He’s about production and potential.

“He can absolutely be the No. 1 pick,” one general manager said.

Duke’s Jabari Parker is another guy who could potentially hear his name called before Andrew Wiggins next summer, Goodman writes. At least a couple NBA GMs agree. Yeah, Wiggins is the early favorite, but there’s still a year of college basketball to be played. Don’t hand Wiggins the first hat just yet.

[Should Julius Randle be taken No. 1?]

Jeff Goodman is a man of God and obviously is in tune with his holy spirit.

Keep In mind the two players arent that far apart on what they can contribute to their teams. However, Julius has been at UK the entire summer practicing against some of the best college and pro competition out there. It Is very conceivable to me that his skill and talent level surpasses, even though It may just be slightly, Andrew Wiggins skill and talent.

I also meant to mention that Wiggins hasnt been at KU all summer. He has been at home with family and friends.

I agree with Goodman but he is only attempting to get more clicks on the link to his article by bringing in the BBN, difficult to know what he really thinks about Randle vs Wiggins if anything.

Randle already has the NBA look, and will only get better. I don’t know what it is, but something about Wiggins just seems off.

Wiggins is a sinful young man. So glad to have Randle, a man of God, representing Big Blue Nation!

When I look at Wiggins, I see someone built like Kobe.

When I look at Randle I see someone built like LeBron.

Randle will be a complete mismatch for anyone on the college basketball ranks due to his size and athleticism. Wiggins will be great because of his quickness and skill. Wiggins will have plenty of razzle dazzle I am sure, but he won’t be mowing over people like Randle.

Hopefully, Randle and this group of all-Americans is good enough to keep us out of the NIT.

I am so glad that Carl Rogers understands all things UK related. I mean come on, we were all taught that Heaven is Blue, and Hell is red. Right? Preaching to the choir Brother Rogers. Glad to hear it.

I am just glad that we are not like uvel, you know, going to the nit twice, losing to Morehead in the first round. Things like that would be hard to get over.

if Randle is the #1 pick over Wiggins then Cal will have his pick of any prospect in the future. That will prove once and for all there is a “Kentucky Effect” with Mohammed’s stock dropping last draft and Wiggins going from consensus #1 pick to behind Randle.

In my opinion after seeing both play in All star games, Randle has more of an upside than Wiggins and more of the intangibles that the pros look for. He is a lot like Mashburn and power forwards that can shoot and are as athletic as Randle, are more of a commodity than someone who is a tweener who doesn’t have as good of a pro body like Wiggins does. That doesn’t mean that Wiggins won’t be the next major star in the pros, but hopefully soon the P.R. machine will begin to turn Randle’s way once the season starts. I think that is why some are not on Randle’s bandwagon quite yet. Since Randle was out injured most of his senior year, some probably want to see how he will do fully healthy for a season. Either way, Randle will be great for us and is the better of the two in my opinion from what little I’ve seen.

At least we have our 8 championships, and soon to be 9, to keep us warm and cozy during those dark days, or should I say day, of uvel achievement.

I too have said Julius will go before Wiggins in the draft, and also believe he will be named the #1 player this year. I have seen them both play in person and would take Julius every time to be on my team over Wiggins.

I too believe that Julius was hurt in the rankings having to sit out most of his senior year. Once the season starts both will be able to prove themselves on the college level.

From what little I saw Parker he may be the most over rated player ever.

But Drew you wrote like one million articles on KSR about Wiggins and only maybe 10 about Randle. You had a huge man-crush on him and now all of a sudden he’s 2nd because he didn’t come to UK? C’mon man… KSR (mostly Drew) was hyping Wiggins for 2 years, literally, every. single. day.

Who the first round pick in the nba is doesn’t matter to me at all. Winning the ntl chmp. does. Let Wiggins be the first round pick i could care less.

I have this crazy notion that MAYBE we should watch them play a college game or two before discussing this.
But basing this off of the McDonald’s games and the like, I noticed Randle, Parker, and Gordon first. I see those three having major effects on their teams. Wiggins will too, but I really wouldn’t have noticed him in these all-star games had I not been picking him out to watch.

Shawn just because the twins didnt want to spend their summer at UK is no reason to lie about Wiggins. It was widely reported that Wiggins turned down Canada to enroll at Kansas for summer classes, being able to take advantage of the new summer practice rules.

Lots of sinful jabs coming from you fine folks. Remember that Lord Jesus is sitting next to us each and every moment. Please clean up your language and the hurtful things you say. The path to Hell is paved with good intentions, so do something and make a difference, don’t just talk about it. Jehovah God has come into my life and I can’t deny him. I praise his name forever and I am saved because I was baptized and gave my life and my sins to the Lord God. I urge all of you to do the same, in Jesus name I pray.

#29 Your right it looks like I was starting on him, but he started on me yesterday and i guess I let it to me. There are way bigger things to worry about, expescially when the pastor that married me and my wife died on the 21st our 29th anniversary how ironic. The greatest man I ever knew, and I had the privilege to have known him for over 40 years, and have never seen him do wrong. That man will not just make it to heaven, he has a whole corner all to himself. Gordon and his wife Louise we’re big cat fans, don’t think they ever watched them on TV, mostly because they never had a TV, but they listened to every game on the radio if they weren’t in church. Louise past several years ago now there United.
