Jeff Goodman predicts Gonzaga will win the ‘ship

Mark Few may have his best team at Gonzaga this season, but to predict a national championship seems a little aggressive to me. Jeff Goodman, on the other hand, has the Bulldogs as his pick in ESPN’s predictions for the 2014-15 college basketball season. Goodman then went on SportsCenter and said Gonzaga has no weakness. He’s all-in.

Here’s a breakdown of the 22 ESPN “expert” predictions:

Kentucky: 9
Arizona: 8
Wisconsin: 3
Duke: 1
Gonzaga: 1

The Zags, huh? Mmmmkay.

Ehh… why not. They have a great point guard and great shooting — two really important things to have in March. Could they win it? Sure.

      No, they couldn’t.

Could they win it? No, no they cannot.

Could Georgetown have won last year?

Could Connecticut have won last year? They were ranked lower in the preseason polls than Gonzaga is right now. The NCAA tourney is a bit of a crapshoot — that’s what makes it so much fun.

Sounds like he’s getting exactly what he wanted out of that prediction – people are talking about Jeff Goodman.

He’s the guy who looks like a younger but mentally handicapped Sylvester Stallone

Do you remember when Tiger Woods was winning every other Major. It was Tiger against the field. That is what I see with UK. It is UK against the field.

Do you remember everyone buying 40-0 shirts last year? How about we just enjoy the year without all the expectations that destroy the enthusiasm if/when they take a loss?

Was it just a coincidence that Ky got 9 votes?

    Looking forward to getting #9!

Is it a coincidence that I pooped 9 times today either!? Hanging banner #9 and poop #9!

So, Jeff, you are telling me that Few has managed to teach Kyle how to play defense?

Makes sense, everyone else is picking Ky and a couple other teams, so if he gets lucky and they win he will look good. If Ky wins it’s no big deal to anyone except Cat fans.

No stranger than someone predicting Georgetown to win it last year. I look for Wiltjer to be a 2nd or 3rd team All-American

What are you basing Wiltjer’s All-American honors on? That he played for UK? He couldn’t guard a concrete block and you can’t teach speed. He will go unnoticed this year.

If you don’t think Kyle will be a lot faster/quicker your silly. You can’t teach speed to a certain point but you can help it quite a bit by getting in shape (dakari) and definitely lateral movement can be improved and we all know the kid can shoot..

I’m basing it on the fact that you say he can’t play defense because of his skin color while I think he is more fundamentally sound and smarter than most other players.

Why is Goodman allowed to write for a major publication? He’s an embarrassment.

Do people forget that you actually have to play defense in the tournament and great shooting alone won’t win a championship for you. Take a look at how Creighton performed when they met up with a much more athletic Baylor team in the tournament.

He does this to get hits. Don’t post his link, so he doesn’t get them. He put the 2 heavy faves, UK and Arizona, at 8 and 9. Not an accident, or how he really thinks it will shake down.

I believe the doubts about Wiltjer’s ability to defend have less to d with is RACE & more to do with his RECORD. If you care to enlighten me when Wiltjer ever played more than passable Defense, Catspaw, please do so.
