Jeff Goodman explains why he is only ESPN writer to rank UK No. 2
Kentucky became the unanimous No. 1 team in the AP poll yesterday and the Cats received all but one vote from the ESPN college basketball staff’s new Power Rankings today. Goodman, who’s openly admitted he’s anti-John Calipari, dropped Kentucky to No. 2 behind Duke. He took to Twitter this morning to explain the move:
Duke and Kentucky are 1A and 1B right now. I went with Duke at No. 1 this week because feel Blue Devils resume a little more impressive. Duke’s win at Wiscy more impressive than UK neutral-court win against Kansas. Duke’s neutral over Michigan St even to UK home win vs. UT. Then Duke has beaten Stanford and Temple on a neutral court while Kentucky beat a Providence team that has lost to BC and Brown at home. I know UK fans. I’m a hater. I’ve only ranked ‘Cats No. 1 in preseason and for the first three weeks of year. Duke win at Wiscy difference.

So, UK beats (then) #5 Kansas, and #7 Texas by an avg margin of 22… and Duke’s neutral site win against a Mich State team that lost to Kansas(who UK beat by 32) somehow is the trump card that makes them #1? I guess it would be pretty boring if everyone picked the logical choice; where would the story be there? Wanna bet Goodman gets some good twitter wars going w/ this one?
So Duke’s win over the pasty white guys of Wussconsin drops UK to 2nd huh? Neither of those teams wants ANYTHING to do with Texas much less UK.
He is really reaching with his logic.
Gooman was just asked on twitter if Duke/UK meet today on a neutral court, who you got? He says Duke…but doesn’t seem to be able to defend it

I don’t really have a problem with this. On paper, Duke’s season and Kentucky’s are pretty close. The bigger difference is in the eye-test, but I can’t get mad at this dude for not realizing that.
Logic is flawed. Kentucky will never play the #2 team on their home court this year (likely), therefore UK will never be #1 in his mind?

Michigan State is 5-3 and lost to Kansas by 5. Kentucky beat Kansas by 32.
Jeff calls a Duke win on a neutral court by 10 to Michigan State, a team that he doesn’t have in his top 25, a push to a 12 point win vs. what he considers the #8 team in the country in Texas.
Interesting. Good thing Wisconsin showed how dominant that are vs. Marquette bouncing back from that loss lol.

Last time I checked, Jeff Goodman’s opinions,in their order of importance, rank somewhere along with that of a snail or night crawler. The fact that he is even paid to give an opinion is one of life’s biggest mysteries. He should be swabbing bathroom floors in subway stations instead of having any of his incredible asinine thoughts on public display.
One tick of sports’ writers that I find obnoxious is when they intentionally troll a fan base and then turn around an mock those fan bases when they react to the trolling.
