Jarred Vanderbilt adjusting to new role on the bench

Barring an unforeseen Christmas miracle, Jarred Vanderbilt will not play in the opening weekend of the NCAA Tournament. But that doesn’t mean he can’t be an impact on the game as his teammates’ biggest cheerleader and additional assistant coach on staff.

Vanderbilt said Wednesday that he is trying to be supportive of his teammates as he sits out with injury, which he self-diagnosed at 70 percent.

“I still want to support the guys no matter what, whether I’m on or off the court,” he said. “I’m just doing my part so we can win.”

It’s good to see he got the “all business” haircut, even if he doesn’t play. Shai has been playing even better, since he cropped his hair, and I’d love to see Richards and Diallo follow suit. It may sound crazy to most people, but you have to understand just how much “image” means to these guys, as they jockey for a lottery pick. James Young, WCS and few others went through that stage, and you could tell they were starting to “grow up”, when they started focusing more on their game, than their image.

It sounds crazy to most people, because that is crazy. If a player can play, they’re going to get drafted. NBA executives couldn’t care less about his hair. Ridiculous comment
