Congratulations to Isaiah Briscoe and Malik Monk, who just earned SEC weekly honors for their performances vs. Ole Miss. Briscoe tied with Georgia’s Yante Maten for SEC Player of the Week for his triple-double night in Oxford, while Monk took home the SEC Freshman of the Week honor for a second time for his 34-point performance Thursday night.
By now, you know that Briscoe’s triple double is only the third in UK Basketball history, and the second this season following De’Aaron Fox’s vs. Arizona State. This is Briscoe’s first SEC honor of the season, and the third for Monk, who won SEC Freshmen of the Week two weeks ago and Player of the Week following his 47-point breakout game vs. North Carolina. Monk’s 34 points are the most a freshman has ever scored in program history on the road. He’s now scored 30 or more points twice this season, becoming just the second freshman in program history to achieve that feat. Jamal Murray had three such games a season ago.
Congrats, boys. Let’s celebrate with your highlights.
