Is Beating Louisville Key for Momentum?

After yesterday’s win, you can’t help but get back up on the gravy train for this Kentucky Wildcats team. For the first time this season, the Cats finally showed the fans what they’ve been wanting to see all year. Heart. Determination. Perseverance through adversity and a will to win. They finally looked like a team with an identity, as opposed to a group of talented individuals on the same court together.

I decided to look back on the past few years and see just how big of an impact the Louisville game had on Kentucky in sustaining momentum after a big win against the Cardinals. Obviously, the varying difficulty of schedules each season has an impact on how well UK played following the match up with UofL, but for the most part, in Cal’s most successful seasons here at Kentucky, the Cats didn’t do much losing after the rivalry game.

2012-2013: two losses in their next five games

2011-2012: no losses rest of regular season

2010-2011: two losses in their next five games

2009-2010: two losses rest of regular season

2008-2009: no losses in the next five games

It’s time for Kentucky to go on a tear in conference play. We’re ready for ya, SEC.

I am just glad they are buying in finally and starting to gel. We saw what they are capable of against UoL. I think this will give them the drive they need to dominate the SEC. They see what Cal is talking about now and that gelling pays off. Should be a glorious remainder of the year.

The fact that you’re ignorant enough to have a 40-0 shirt doesn’t surprise me that you automatically assume they’ll win every game from here on after a good performance. You are why people hate us.

Great win! The Cats can really gain momentum and build confidence with this victory. It was an unbelievable effort, especially in the second half with Randle on the bench with cramps. We are finally showing signs of being a national championship team, although Andrew will have to be able to hit clutch free throws down the stretch in the NCAA’s, if we are going to raise a 9th banner. Our point guard must be money in the bank on the free throw line since the ball will be in his hand more times than not.
The great coach Wooden said it best- basketball is not the ultimate it is of small importance compared to the total life we live, “There is only one life that truly wins and that is the one that places faith in the hands of the savior. Until that is done we are on an aimless course that runs in circles and goes nowhere.”

Uhh, Cal wasn’t the coach here in 2008-2009. And the 2011 team lost 2 of next 5 but still made Final Four. Guess I’m just not sure what we’re supposed to be seeing here. You’re saying that his best teams didn’t lose many games? Cool.

Cal was not at UK in 2008, that was BCG’s last year of drunken debauchery.

If we can get to 68-70% on FT’s we’re going to be a tough out, if not it’s going to catch up with us in a game. UK or UL both did poorly at the line, if both teams shot 100% yesterday we win by 13, that can be a huge difference in a game, if only UL shoots 100% they win by 1, I think we will get better there as time goes, maybe over the next 11 days. Cal is 5-1 against SLICK RICK and it was great to see all the players step up today. I think going forward that Alex, Hawkins, Johnson and maybe another will make us the team to beat come NCAA’s.

Nowhere in the article does it mention a consideration of who is UK’s coach. It was still UK basketball before Cal got here…just not as good.

Win on the road against a ranked team before you go celebrating too much. UK hasn’t shown anything away from home this season against a decent team.

You would think if it’s Russ Arena he’d at least beat UK there once in his career, oh well too late for that. I’m glad as a UK fan a dunk is not what I have to hang my hat on after that game. LOSERVILLE is lucky they only have 2 legit teams left on their schedule in UCONN and Memphis, I was thinking they’d split with them but after seeing their inside game I think they get swept by those 2 teams and anyone else on their schedule with decent inside players will get them. The year of the Cardinal is over, they had a nice win over a depleted Miami team, how good will UL FB be without Teddy and I look for Charlie to move on also.

It was stupid to think 40-0 with such a young team. It was great to see that killer coming from the twins in the second half and for them to oushine and play Smith and Jones. But, 23 straight wins going into NCAA’s with a 1 seed and finishing the season 37-3 and hanging a banner will be great. I disagree that we haven’t done anything against ranked teams away from Rupp, we had a shot to win all 3 games so early, as Cal tells us to be patient and good things will come. With 11 days of (unlimited) practice time before the next game lets hope they improve on FT shooting and we can be what we thought we should’ve been, it will be extra nice knowing LOSERVILLE will be home watching. You would think the way the boosters take care of Ware and Chane they would’ve had supplied them with better drugs to be prepared for the game, Chane really needed a fix.

Louisville got exposed on national TV. Blowhanon is useless 5 feet away from the basket , taller guards will take the U of L guards to the basket all game and they have absolutely no inside game. Give 15 second Rick credit for having them rated as high as they were. All smoke and mirrors.
