Indiana has a New Basketball Coach

USATSI

USATSI

And just like that, Steve Alford is stuck with LaVar Ball.

Jeff Goodman reports Indiana will hire Archie Miller to be their next basketball coach.  The 38-year old took Dayton to the Elite Eight in 2014 and has a 68.8 winning percentage in five seasons with the Flyers.

I was really hoping Indiana would hire Alford — a guy who can’t win in the Sweet 16 or coach defense — after firing Crean — a guy who can’t win in the Sweet 16 or coach defense.  Instead, the Hoosiers made a homerun hire.

That’s a good hire. Hopefully he’ll play us in Indy.

Yeah, it really sucks that IU hired such a classy, likeable guy. Nobody wants a likeable villain, let alone a “neighbor” who is so nice, it’s annoying.

Miller will hurt Kentucky in recruits.

Well, Crean stole a couple from Cal as well…but Cal is still gonna get his.

No, not in any way that matters. As far as Crean went, we got Lyles. Who did he steal ?

That’s laughable. They won’t come close to UK in recruiting. Duke and UK dominate. Then it’s KU, Zona, Ucla, etc. IU won’t even be top 10.

I guess you could say Crean signed Blackmon, Jr. Actually Crean has had the talent; in 2013, he still had Cody Zeller, Oladipo, Sheehey, and a decent point guard. He had all the parts, just couldn’t coach defense.

I guess Alford really did turn them down – you know he was their first choice. I would have had no problem continuing to hate him and IU, but now it’s going to be harder to since Miller is a good guy and a great coach.

Mike Davis was a great one year coach with the chair throwing, choking players’ kids.

Well hell, no person – site – group etc knows how stuff plays out dude. You just look at who is available and their history and most people with any basketball IQ would say this is a good hire. It’s not science or specific to a site as it is to folks who know basketball

Actually MJ has said for years that Crean got way too much credit for Marquette because of D Wade. Archie Miller is a great hire and will recruit well in Indy. As a coach he may have the most talent as Sean has continually flamed out early w/ top talent. We’ll see.

He’s overrated; besides Knight going to make sure he’s not successful. Name a coach that has been successful at IU since Knight got fired? Go ahead I’ll wait

Is Miller going to continue the proud IU tradition of celebrating regular seasin wins with popcorn boxes, cutting nets for regular season league titles, and having his players flop after faking contact with opponents’ elbows? Not to mention flaming out in the Sweet Sixteen? Yep, Crean will be a hard act to follow. 😀
