Indiana Basketball Fans Attempt to Recreate the Christian Watford Shot for $1,000 in Halftime Contest

Indiana’s adoration for Christian Watford’s shot knows no bounds.

It was funny when they plastered Watford’s face on popcorn boxes. It was odd that they gave players rings for a Sweet 16 appearance. Now they’ve reached a sad new low.

For Thursday night’s halftime entertainment during Indiana’s matchup with No. 11 Michigan State, two fans were given the chance to win $1,000. To obtain the prize, they had to recreate “The Wat Shot.” Seriously.

A once proud program with five National Championships is stuck reliving the glory days. No, Hoosiers aren’t hysterical about their titles. They are enamored by a regular season win over a team that later eliminated them in the NCAA Tournament.

Look at the old court. They haven’t changed anything since like 1980. Jerseys, arena, amount of wins… nothing.

This madness must stop. None of the players are playing or relevant anymore, Coach is in GA trying to recover, a whole new incoming class of graduates have come and gone and most of these kids don’t even know that UK beat them again that year to get the “Ship”. It needs to stop. They have their rings. Let’s let sleeping dogs lie.

I’d argue it’s almost as sad that some writers here can just let it go. Every tome they do anything remotely associated with that game, for sure some writer at KSR will poke fun at it. Let me guess Nick, you’ve probably got an article ready to make fun of Tom Crean because he lists his players as “basketball players”? In no way, shape, or form did this ten minute, harmless halftime activity have any effect whatsoever on our team, or coach, our program, or our fans. You’re like the boyfriend that constantly takes jabs at his ex because her new man is overweight and ugly. She’s happy, move on and focus on your own life.

nocode, I normally agree with you on most things. But IU needs to mocked and made fun of over this. It shows the depths that this one proud program, state, have hit..it’s a good fit for the arrogance that is Indiana..

I’ve said it over and over. Roush is worse than BTI in his hatred prime. He’s a pandering mommas boy. The ex-boyfriend description describes him perfectly.

I’d argue that nocode is lacking sense of humor. It’s freaking basketball. It’s not a big deal to poke fun of a school who is obsessed with UK.

Maybe they could make tshirt “Come see about it, a shot we made once, a long time ago, don’t you remember”?

Most Indiana fans couldn’t read it without help.

Good grief. They don’t deserve a game against UK. That’s beyond embarrassing. I guess it’s quite a compliment for the Cats but yikes.

Yes IU fans are obsessed with the Watford shot all of these years later and should move on. However, UK and its fans still whine about Christian Laettner to this day too. Move on for UK too.

most fans are more upset about the chest stomp than the shot. Kinda different to be mad that someone was allowed to stomp on our players chest than to be mad someone made a shot.

I don’t get it. The rematch found them on the losing end with UK ending the season with trophy in hand. Why would they want to keep remembering that the game they won was completely irrelevant?

And, it wasn’t even the last time they beat us; that one was in the ncaa tournament, not in early December.
Thought goofy left town with Crean…guess not.
Maybe we should let students try to duplicate Harrison’s buzzer beaters, or Vernon Hatton’s 47 footer against Temple, or maybe Joe Hagan’s 48 footer that beat Marquette in the ’30’s…BUT WE ARE KENTUCKY.

Not sure why BBN is so obsessed with this. It was a great shot that lives in IU history just like UK has theirs. IU just having fun.
It’s basketball not life. Get over yourselves. for a group that claims everyone is so obsessed with UK I’d say this site proves the “pot meet kettle” theory.
