Immanuel Quickley confirms he is returning to Kentucky

Immanuel Quickley is returning to Kentucky for a sophomore season. The freshman put any concerns he may transfer to rest with a post on Instagram confirming he’s returning for “Year 2” to take care of “unfinished business”:

Year 2 #UnFinishedBuisness #BBN???

A post shared by Immanuel Jaylen Quickley (@immanuelquickley__) on

“Excited for Immanuel, who is in the same mold as Brandon Knight in terms of his work ethic,” John Calipari tweeted. “We haven’t had many players who work harder than him on the court or in the classroom. He is a grounded, faith-centered person who is undoubtedly going to reach his dreams. He improved as much as any player on our team this past season.”

Quickley averaged 5.2 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.2 assists during his freshman season. He shot 37.2% from the floor and 34.5% from three, becoming one of Kentucky’s most reliable outside threats by the end of the season.

If he continues to work on his shooting, Quickley could be an integral part of next year’s run. Plus, having another veteran in the backcourt is always a good thing.

I don’t think Quickley took enough 3s this past season. His shot doesn’t look bad at all.

Excellent news – he won the 3p shooting contest at either the McD game or Jordan Brand, one of those. He has a nice shot, and our backcourt is set w those 3. Baker would be a nice keep but those 3 are solid.

I know he won it over Tyler at Big Blue Madness. Regardless.. I agree he has a nice outside shot. Welcome back IQ!!

Are we possibly going to have the best back court in the country next year?

      Not if Hagens is starting.

Hagans should be much in his 2nd year, not sure about Hagens.

Hagans is a great player and you know it, he’s a kid. He got caught exceeding expectations last year for a while, as a result, when he started playing like just an average super freshman again, folks like you started getting angry.

What if we start Hagans instead?

Hagens had a period that he played as well as any guard in the league. I suspect a much more consistent dose of that play. He’s 18 years old for Christ sake.

They’re all great kids that we’re proud to have. Call hasn’t had the duds that are studs like K has. Very thankful for that

The players need to stop with this “we have unfinished business” BS. UK fans are not stupid, ok well 4ever and nosense errr nocode will buy into this but that’s it. You are back because you are not good enough to go in the draft right now. If you were you would be gone so be honest. Not saying we are not glad you are back, we are, but be honest with why. Unless by unfinished business you mean I still have work to do before the NBA will draft me, then we are on the same page. They act like they are doing us a favor with these stupid announcements.

When I read “unfinished business” I take it as these guys are motivated and have the work ethic to really take it to the next level this offseason with the best interest of the team in mind. You sound like somebody with no work ethic and a complacent mindset.

Then add you to the list of dumb ones. They are doing it for them, not team. Had they been as good as they and others thought and were a top 15 pick they would be gone. They were not as good as they and everyone thought and that is the ONLY reason they are back. Not saying it is wrong, all should do what is best for them and their family, but quit acting like it was their choice. They had no choice. Now Herro and Keldon do have a choice as both will be drafted, they have to decide if they like their possible draft pick range or return. These other guys were not getting drafted this season

i like the “unfinished business” narrative. it worked for that team from madison when they beat us in the final four, and also worked for the carolina team the year after losing to villanova.

Uhhhh yeah, that’s how this works, bro. Every kid comes into college basketball wanting to make it to the league. It doesn’t always work out in their favor as quickly as they want, so they decide to come back. That’s how most things in life work. You don’t accomplish something, you stay at it and work even harder. Not really sure what you’re trying to argue here. Just a lot of nonsense out of you, per usual.

It’s possible to have your own interests in mind as well as the teams interest. Those two things are not mutually exclusive.

Bashburn would be happy if all of Dukes guys came back, they got the #1 recruiting class and all the top grad grade players decided to transfer to them.

Great news. Pretty good offensive skills outside of passing.Wish he’d shot more. But now folks will complain that UK doesn’t recruit enough talent because there are so many players coming back. Mark it and wait for those calls all summer and fall. And then that will be the “Yahoo” and “The Stadium” narrative periodically and the reason several people put UK outside the top 20.

IQ can be a very good point guard for the Cats. Much better offensive player than Hagans, and a decent defensive player. Looking forward to having him back for the 2019-2020 season. Let’s get it done!!

  15. Thetruthshallsetbennyfree
    6:36 pm April 13, 2019 Permalink

By the tournament IQ’s defense out shined Hagans in some games. Add in the fewer turnovers per possession and his shot and he may make it difficult for Hagans to keep his starting spot.

I think we could see Hagans and him hit their stride next year and when on the court be able to shut down any guard combo on the court and him with Maxey will be able to score on anyone.
