Kentucky Sports Radio

University of Kentucky Basketball, Football, and Recruiting news brought to you in the most ridiculous manner possible.

I’m not sure I follow you, Dan.

Dan Dakich did a great job calling the Kentucky-LSU game last night, no doubt. His analysis was precise and fair to both sides, with no trolling of the Big Blue Nation. I wouldn’t mind ESPN sending Dakich to another UK game if he calls it the way he did last night. Job well done, Dan.

BUT, with that being said, I have to call him out for one little thing he said in the first half after LSU hit a jumper to take a 16-4 lead, because I’m still baffled by it, as are many of my friends who heard it too.

Let’s set it up… Dakari Johnson caught a Johnny O’Bryant jumper in the face (who didn’t last night?) with a decent defensive effort. That’s a shot you’d normally like to see O’Bryant take, but he was stroking it last night. Dakari had a hand in his face and almost got a piece of the ball on the shot, but to Dakich, that was the wrong thing to do. He said putting a hand up provides a direction for the shooter to shoot the ball, like the sight on a gun.

Wait, what?

“This is going to sound silly but to defend that you’ve got to walk into him because it’s all a fadeaway, and Dakari Johnson just put his hand up and when you put your hand up it’s like the sight at the end of a gun — it just gives him a direction to shoot it.” ~ Dan Dakich

So according to Dakich, it’s better for the defender to put his hand a little off to the side to throw off the shooter’s aim. Is that what he meant? I’m lost.

It didn’t matter what anybody did to O’Bryant last night.

I wouldn’t care what Dan Dakich says about anything, just like Dykes. I have learn to tune them out.

That makes no sense. Like shooters are just blindly flinging the ball at the basket (well, besides Goodwin). And a defender with his back to the basket has a better idea where the hoop is. Idiotic.

I don’t much care for Dan Jockitch, but I understood what he meant, even if is was a little

I thought that was a really stupid comment, but he did a better job overall than many of this year’s commentators.

Is their something else we can talk about? This was one comment from a guy who did a pretty good job last night. Was that a dumb comment? Yes, but if we had someone pick at all the dumb things we said in a day or a week, that would certainly be an eye opening experience for us all.

Dumb Dan did a fine job last night, as you acknowledged in an earlier post and in the first sentence of this one. And now you’re nitpicking and reaching…seems a little bratty, to me. Last night was very forgettable and clearly we’ve ran outta things to moan about, so let’s turn the page and move on to Missouri.

Surprisingly Dakich did a good job calling the game, unlike our guards who didn’t do anything to help the cause. I said this before, the thinking part of the game relies on the guard play, it’s contagious as the common cold. If the team doesn’t see it, feel it, then it’s just not going to happen.

Dan made comments last night that no other announcer would ever make. He personally attacked players. In his defense he made the best comments about Cal that he ever has, but he still made comments that are not okay.

KSR’s obsession with Dan Dakich is getting a little scary. A restraining order may be in store.

It’s almost impossible to talk for two hours without saying somethin stupid. Most people can’t talk five minutes without saying somethin dumb.

Dan Dakich did a really good job calling the game, us just leave it at that.

He was not bias, he called it as straight up as he could, and I enjoyed the job he did.

His incredulous “WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!” as the idiots didn’t foul was amazing. It perfectly summed up what everyone was thinking. And the sound of his voice signified how utterly unbelievable it was.
He called a great game but was probably secretly enjoying how terrible we looked.

I didn’t know Dakich was such a UK hater till a few days ago. With that being said…thought Dan did a good job last night, but, that might have something to do with him being next to Nessler because Brad is fantastic. Living in Ohio I watch a lot of Big Ten games (I love college basketball). So, to be honest…I always didn’t like listening to Dan Dakich. He’s really not that good of a TV color analyzer for college basketball but, like I said…he did do a good job last night.

DD was right all night long and called a great game. KSR trying to call him out will only get embarrassed…..again! You put your hand up to impact either vision or release point and when Johnny O stepped back or faded then it did neither which is why he stated that Dakari needed to step into him when he does that, otherwise DD is right and your not hindering the shot at all but sorta serving as a guide.

KSR’s generally uncouth behavior makes it a challenge trying to keep up with UK sports. Unfortunately there’s not many alternatives to choose from.
That said, KSR has made me a Dakich fan (Bless his heart for fielding that juvenile, ambush-journalism style, call from KSR). Just got to respect the “scary bald reporter” from the Bob Knight era. Especially after calling a straight-up solid game.
Someone calling a unapologetic UK game was a good change from the usual “kid-gloves” thing. Hope he does more UK games. He’s much better than Billy Packer and several levels above Matt “that foreign player” Jones.

Come on guys… Let it go… Dakich did a really good job for ESPN, why are we dedicating an entire post for one comment he made during a two hour broadcast??? Stop reaching and bury this beef before you make yourselves look any worse…

KSR gave this guy his due credit. They were just asking a question. I don’t think this was a shot at Dakich, more of a question of what is he talking about? Will someone explain it further? I had never been coached to put my hand up offset to the shooters face. KSR is just wanting some clarification on the strategy.
