I spy a UK game in the new episode of “Crashing” on HBO

A Kentucky basketball game made an appearance in Sunday night’s new episode of Crashing on HBO. In a scene shot in the Olive Tree Cafe (one of my go-to spots in New York City FYI), the game can be seen in the background on the two televisions above the bar.

Upon closer inspection, the mid-court logo on the Rupp Arena court is the old logo, so it is not a recent game. We last saw that logo during the 2015-16 season, so the most recent it can be is from the Ulis/Murray era.

The episode was filmed last fall, so how did the old game make its way to the Olive Tree’s televisions during filming? Is there a UK fan working behind the scenes on the show? We need answers!

Zoomed in as much as I could. Clearly a red team and the name is long-ish (longer than Kansas). Doesn’t appear to be two words (so not ole Miss) . My opinion is Louisville. But no clue on the date.

It’s not Louisville, because that was a CBS game that season and that’s clearly an ESPN score bug. Looking at the home schedule for 2015-16, it could be Boston University, NJIT or Georgia.

It’s definitely 2010-11, that bar on the bottom represents an SEC game on ESPN or SEC TV Network, plus that was ESPN’s format that year. From the first picture, could be ESPNU. The team could be a dark orange, such as Auburn.

The game is on ESPNU. That logo is from the pre-SECN era.

It’s a team in red uniforms.

The game is Kentucky vs. Lamar from Dec 2011…which means the Anthony Davis team is playing in that game.

I work in the entertainment industry in NY and I can tell you that TV shows buy the rights to have whatever that’s playing on the tv sets in the background, and play it on loop while they film the scene. While it’s possible they specifically asked for a UK game, it’s more likely they just asked for any sort of sports.

Still, cool to see UK on Crashing.
