Hypothetical UK Pickup Game: United States or International?
A caller on this morning’s radio show raised a good UK basketball question….
Who would you take in a pickup game: UK’s American-born players or the international guys?
For the sake of keeping it fair in terms of depth, we’ll say it’s a three-on-three game with one reserve. Let’s build two lineups from the roster…

Tyler Ulis
Isaiah Briscoe
Alex Poythress
Marcus Lee
Derek Willis
Charles Matthews
Dominique Hawkins
E.J. Floreal
International
Skal Labissiere
Jamal Murray
Isaac Humphries
Mychal Mulder
For the United States team, we’ll call it Tyler Ulis, Isaiah Briscoe and Alex Poythress with Marcus Lee as the reserve. The International team fills itself out, with Skal Labissiere, Jamal Murray and either Isaac Humphries or Mychal Mulder, depending on your style of play.
I think I’ll take the Americans, but not by much. It’s hard to turn down any team with Skal Labissiere and Jamal Murray. I think the third and fourth guys are the difference-makers.

International. Obviously more depth on USA squad, but more potent scoring potential with the International boys. Plus, Skal = Defense & Offense. Lee = Defense only.
International team wins easily. Don’t think it would be close.
I’ll take a starting five of Ulis, Briscoe, Poythress, a bald eagle, and freedom.

Interesting theory but I have to go with the international team as well. All can score and have a size advantage.
5 on 5 would be;
Murray, Mulder, Wynyard, Skal, Humphries VS Ulis, Briscoe, Willis, Poythress, Lee
Very close but I give the edge to the US squad because I believe in Tyler Ulis that much.
