Kentucky fans have a long history of dominating online polls, and today, that upset one Twitter pollmaker so much he took his polls and went home. @CBB_polls, which bills itself as “the best college basketball poll page,” has been running a series of polls about the sport, the most recent asking fans to vote on the best arena in college basketball. Rupp Arena won that poll, but the pollmaker was so upset about the result he or she posted this message and announced they are suspending their polls until the start of the season.
It’s worth noting that I can’t link the actual tweet because @CBB_polls blocked me and apparently every UK fan who has participated in the polls, making it especially sweet that Rupp still won. Last week, they ran a poll asking which team has better fans, Kentucky or Iowa State, and the Cyclones had a commanding lead until the poll was brought to our attention and we linked it a few times. Sorry for the free publicity, dude.
Back to today’s response. Their digs at Rupp Arena aside, you have to love how this person is trying to argue for “correctness” and subjectivity on a forum like Twitter. If @CBB_polls is expecting Twitter to be fair all of the time, they’ve got a long summer ahead of them. Twitter polls are meant to be taken over by fanbases and shared to increase exposure. In fact, I’d be willing to bet the account’s followers doubled or tripled after the BBN became aware of that poll last week.
On second thought, by shaming fans for doing exactly as he or she asked, maybe this person does fit right in on Twitter.
