Governor Bevin removes UofL Board Members, announces President Ramsey’s resignation

bevin

We knew something big would go down with UofL while Matt was out of town, but I don’t think any of us expected this. This morning, Governor Matt Bevin announced he is removing all existing members from the UofL Board of Trustees and naming an interim board. He went even further and announced that UofL President James Ramsey is resigning, possibly immediately. According to Bevin, Ramsey “too wants to see a fresh start.”

How unexpected was this? The UofL board members weren’t notified prior to Bevin’s announcement. Bevin said he’s received Ramsey’s letter of resignation, and while Ramsey is prepared to step down immediately, the process could take up to two weeks.

When asked, Bevin denied that Rick Pitino or the sex scandal drove him to make this move.

“The athletic side has not driven my concerns,” Bevin said, adding that he has not spoken to Pitino about the decision.

A live look at the UofL campus:

I haven’t followed this closely because I don’t live in KY and don’t care about of UofL, but removing the entire board of trustees?!?! Yikes. Talk about drastic measures. I hope this guy knows what he’s doing.

Also, it’s ridiculous that it even has to be said that a governor of a state hasn’t spoken to a basketball coach about the decision to remove the president and entire board of trustees of a state university.

I’d still like a live look at Ricky P. He’s already preparing his victim-spin.

Bit out of the loop. If this isn’t related to the strippers scandal, is this about the criminal YUM arena deal?

That Jim Host and the Arena Authority sold their souls to make the Yum Center happen is on them, not the UofL board.

It may be partly that. It’s probably also due to the 2 FBI investigations into misappropriation of funds and embezzlement by high ranking members of U of L’s staff (the CIO for instance).

In typical KSR fashion Matt Jones will come back saying how much he loves Bevin now

Its more likely that Matt will say this is a move for Bevin to get his cronies as the only members on the board at U of L.

Surely Jones will break radio silence for THIS.
    Wow.

Congratulations to Matt on seeing his vanity project cone to fruition. Can we get back to UK sports now?

Most of us only follow UK basketball and football, and there’s only so much news on those (which we’re still getting).

Can we stop the constant bitching whenever the site covers related and relevant topics like former coaches and rival schools?

Tennessee, is a rival Matt never mentions the rape culture there. Vanderbilt, is a rival Matt never mentions their issues with rape there. Baylor, never mentioned.UNC, barely mentioned but he did cover it a bit because of his duke ties. Yes of course it’s a big story that should be covered, but hes gone completely overboard in what can only be described as an un healthy obsession which to me is more about him and his schemes than anything to do with UK our fans aND rivarlries. This is Matt’s white whale and he’s selfishly taking us all down with him simply because of his ego. He’s been obessing about it for years now at the expense of other equally important stories. It’s a vanity project and his obsession

KRS 164.821 gives the board members six-year terms. The governor can only remove a member for cause, and the member is entitled to a hearing before the Council on Postsecondary Education.

So in other words, it’s the same kind of illegal stunt he pulled with the Workers’ Compensation Nominating Commission.

Although it’s actually more like an even more flagrantly illegal version of what he did to that guy on the Kentucky Retirement Systems board.

Perhaps a few million Kentucky fans should all sent U of L a reminder that the Board of Trustees page is out of date?
