What a difference a week makes, right? The UCLA game was quite the reality check for the Big Blue Nation, but Saturday’s win over Arizona State reminded us all what this team is capable of, even without Skal Labissiere playing well.
Part of the reason Kentucky’s been able to survive Skal’s slump is the impressive play of Marcus Lee, who had 14 points, 7 rebounds, 1 steal, and 5 blocks against the Sun Devils on Saturday. In his second game coming off the bench, Lee shined, giving the Cats a spark of energy and a much-needed defensive presence inside.
Let’s start tonight’s GIFs with Lee’s impressive dunk in the first half off an assist by Mychal Mulder:
In the second half, he threw down a sick pass from Jamal Murray:
When Lee wasn’t dunking, he was hustling, hitting the floor for at least two loose balls:
You know what pairs well with hustling? Clapping:
One person who does not deserve a round of applause is Tony Greene, who said Lee stepped on the baseline when he went after this rebound:
Lee and I had the same reaction to the call:
While Lee accounted for plenty of highlights, the biggest of the night belonged to Alex Poythress, who earned the #1 spot on SportsCenter’s Top 10 Plays of the Day with this incredible dunk:
In the second half, Tyler Ulis still wasn’t over it:
Unfortunately, one Cat who didn’t seem to have a lot of fun Saturday was Skal Labissiere. Skal fouled out with 0 points and 0 rebounds after 13 minutes of play, a disappointing performance to say the least. Skal was a hot topic of debate on the postgame show, but I can’t help but feel for the kid after seeing him slumped over on the sidelines:
Poor Skal. I doubt even this GIF of Dancing Guy gyrating on the rail could cheer him up:
Maybe he just need a head rub from Jamal Murray to make it better:
Come on, Tyler. You know that’s Jamal’s thing.
