Get to know the walk-on with the awesome name: EJ Floreal

Caption This!

The next basketball player up in’s spotlight is EJ Floreal, the team’s new walk-on. Floreal, a track star in high school whose father serves as UK’s track and field coach, decided to chase his dreams and only play basketball in college. The son of two Olympians, EJ didn’t just want to play anywhere; he wanted to play with the best at Kentucky.

“I wanted to be the best I could be,” Floreal said. “I wanted to play with the best, practice with the best, work out with the best. This has the best trainers, best facilities, strength coaches, so this is the best place for me. I also wanted to get some experience with a team that’s winning, not a team that’s rebuilding — a team that’s going to go deep into the tournament.”

Despite having offers from other schools, EJ fought hard and earned a walk-on spot on what many consider to be the most talented team in college basketball history. His goal is to earn a scholarship, and according to Cal, he has potential:

“I’m really excited about E.J. joining our team. He’s a great young man who certainly has the athletic ability to be a part of this team and compete at this level. He’s just beginning on the learning curve in terms of some of his basketball skills, but he’s eager to soak up everything he can and has the potential to be a contributor for us.”

Just watched some footage of him on YouTube. now THAT’S what a walk-on looks like, not freaking Brian Long or Sam Malone. not to mention they act like a couple of entitled pricks. Glad that Cal got an ACTUAL walk-on.

You guys are such losers who complain about the walk ons. Why does anyone care if Sam or Brian are on the team. Cal wanted them to walk on so everyone shut the F up.

^ fair enough. But, if they didn’t act like such miniaturized peckerheads I wouldn’t care so much about it, but they do. And they suck. Big time. Like, 4th court Johnson Center suck.

If EJ had been in KZ as a junior in HS he would have been state 100m and 200m champ. He was not as fast as a senior after his transfer to Dunbar, but this kid has jets. Can he catch a football?

Dude can ball. 6’4 and averaged 25 pts/10 reb in HS. Could be the guy to come in and provide defense to cool down a shooter and put points on the board as well. Hope to see him get clock this year, but may have to wait until next year.
