There’s no way to put it nicely: Saturday’s loss to Auburn was bad. So bad that CBS Sports’ Gary Parrish dropped Kentucky out of his Top 25 (and One) rankings this morning, along with Duke:

Kentucky is 13-4 with just two top-50 KenPom wins, and all four losses have come to schools ranked outside of KenPom’s top 50, most recently Saturday’s loss to an Auburn team that’s ranked 162nd. Meantime, Duke is 14-4 with just two top-50 KenPom wins and two losses outside of KenPom’s top 50. The Blue Devils have lost two straight games, most recently a home game to Notre Dame on Saturday that dropped Duke to 3-2 in the ACC.

Here are Gary’s full rankings:

1. Oklahoma (15-1)
2. Kansas (15-2)
3. North Carolina (16-2)
4. Villanova (16-2)
5. Xavier (16-1)
6. West Virginia (15-2)
7. Iowa (13-3)
8. Michigan State (16-2)
9. Maryland (16-2)
10. Virginia (13-3)
11. SMU (16-0)
12. Texas A&M (15-2)
13. Baylor (14-3)
14. Providence (15-3)
15. Miami (13-3)
16. Butler (13-4)
17. Louisville (14-3)
18. Purdue (15-3)
19. Iowa State (13-4)
20. USC (15-3)
21. Pittsburgh (15-2)
22. Arizona (15-3)
23. South Carolina (16-1)
24. Indiana (15-3)
25. Notre Dame (12-5)
26. Wichita State (11-5)

Will the AP voters do the same? We’ll find out in a few hours.

No the AP voters will not do the same. No reasonable person would.

Nobody believes Butler, IU, Wichita State, Notre Dame and Pittsburgh are better teams than us on a neutral site. And last I checked we beat Louisville and have an RPI in the top 10.

I suspect Gary just wants attention again.

UK out but Virginia moves up to #10….after losing to FSU last night. Makes sense.

That is because he comes out with this list yesterday morning, way before the FSU game. Was just posted here the day after.

I kind of hope we drop out. Might give certain guys on this team a little fire in their bellies.

it’s a bad year in basketball … or a good year if you love parity … we’re not a great team, but we have a better resume than some of these teams … he has two 5 loss teams there

our rpi is 18 and duke is 20 … wichita st is 42 and notre dame is 38 … indiana is 47

By dropping UK and Duke out of his rankings he had the most compelling headline on the internet……….he was fishing for eyeballs and clicks…….and I’m sure he got a lot of both. But hey, I’m not in a position to argue with him…..until we gel and start playing better we do not deserve anything from the national press…….Time to man up, or become a backup to next year’s mega class in 2016-17.
