Tonight Kentucky will play a ranked opponent in consecutive games for just the fourth time in the Calipari era when Ben Howland’s Mississippi State team travels to Rupp Arena. Tip-off is set for 7:00 pm between the eighth-ranked Wildcats and No. 22 Bulldogs.
The matchup with Miss. State comes after a galvanizing victory at Auburn and ahead of a Top 10 battle with Kansas. The middle leg of Calipari’s first three-game stretch against ranked teams at Kentucky is the perfect position for a trap game.
This isn’t the same ole Mississippi State. The Bulldogs are 14-3 with solid wins over Dayton, Clemson, Saint Mary’s and Cincinnati. The Weatherspoon brothers, Quinndary (16.6 ppg) and Nick (10.2 ppg.), provide the Bulldogs’ one-two punch, with Owensboro product Aric Holman (12.4 ppg., 8.1 rpg.) holding down the fort in the paint.
Saturday’s win was spectacular, but the Cats can not dwell on it for long. However, you can and you should relive all of the best moments at least one more time.

They say there’s a first time for everything. If Howland’s Bulldogs pull off the upset, it will be the first time John Calipari has lost to Mississippi State as Kentucky’s head coach. Even though the two teams produced fireworks in Cal’s first year, State is the last team in the SEC without a win over the UK head coach.

A Talented Visitor
John Calipari is expected to have a special guest in the stands this evening. Anthony Edwards, the No. 1 player in the 2019 class, is on an official visit in Lexington. Even though it’s cold outside, hopefully he’ll watch the Cats heat up against a Top 25 team inside Rupp Arena.
Before Mark Stoops brings a slew underclassmen to Rupp Arena for Saturday’s Junior Day, he got some good news about the 2019 class. Yesterday four-star cornerback Jammie Robinson announced he will choose between UK, Tennessee, Auburn and South Carolina on National Signing Day. Later today I’ll have more on who Kentucky has in their crosshairs down the stretch.
If you think it’s too cold to venture out into the snow, it wasn’t too tough for Kash Daniel and his new pup.
