Gambling Update: Sports bettors like UCLA

As of late Thursday night, the Kentucky-UCLA game was still a pick ’em in a lot of Las Vegas sports books, but the line has since moved with Friday’s action.

The line moved to Kentucky as a one-point dog early this morning and UCLA is now a 1.5-point favorite over the Cats as tip-off approaches.

However, most of the sharp money loaded up on the Under when the Total was set at 169. That has since dropped several points, but is slowly climbing its way back up.

My advice to you: There’s too much emotion involved in this one to put money on it. Watch the game and let Kentucky’s future in the tournament be the only thing at stake.

But then… if you are a betting person and you like Kentucky in this one it may spell O-P-P-O-R-T-N-I-T-Y. I personally never bet UK games.

Notice that the “sharp” (professional gamblers) money is betting the over/under. The betting public moves the line, so it stands to reason that there’s a West coast bias in the betting. Many people from L.A. spend weekends in Vegas (<100 miles). This, not to mention that a large number of very well-heeled alumn are likely throwing money at UCLA on their emotions. See if the line closes before tip-off… a sign that sharpies see UCLA as over-bet.

most media coverage has been picking UCLA so that has had an impact on the uptick of the line also.
