“Freebies” for this weekend: Rubber duckies, hard hats and world records

It’s gearing up to be another big weekend for UK athletics. The men’s basketball team takes on Vandy inside Rupp Arena Saturday night, while the women’s team will be inside Memorial Coliseum Sunday at 1 p.m. to take on Ole Miss. Of course, you could go for the basketball. Or, you could go for the freebies.

John Calipari, who has continuously stressed the idea of “building” this particular team over the past few weeks, announced fans will receive these hard hats, courtesy of the company that created the first hard hat.

According to Coach Cal’s tweet, the BBN will be attempting to etch their names in the Guinness Book of World Records. Maybe they’re going for “Largest gathering of people wearing helmets,” which is currently held by the Ministry of the Interior in the United Arab Emirates. Thanks to a quick google search, it looks like the record is 3,929 people. The record was set in 2016. Here’s a picture of the record-breaking occassion:

3,929 people? Rupp Arena can definitely beat that.

The women’s team will also have some goodies for fans coming to their SEC matchup – they’re looking to continue the positive momentum following Kentucky’s big win against the Lady Vols in Knoxville. The team is getting really into “National Rubber Duck Day.”

On a related note… Did anyone know there’s a National Rubber Duck Day?!

This is absurd. Yet another ploy by Calipari to make headlines. It may be in his best interests to start focusing on the team, rather than worrying about the supportive fans in the crowd and whether they will participate in his attempt at achieving some silly record.

Don’t post late at night while drunk; it makes you look stupid.

So somebody makes a point you disagree with and you claim they’re inebriated? Wow…such a mature response.

This comment is absurd. I have to disagree with CATandMONKEY. You need to drink more and lighten up.

WOW! This is like a MLB marketing strategy to increase attendance at a game. I think someone has been noticing the empty seats at Rupp Arena!

Those hardhats are manufactured in Cynthiana by Bullard. In the world of industrial safety they are considered one of the best hardhats in the market. It makes sense for them to be a sponsor and do a give away for a game. I doubt Cal had a thing to do with this promotion but even if he did, what doesn’t make sense is all the people that constantly find fault with our coaches on here. It’s called the fellowship of the miserable and we got way too damn many members in the BBN

We were heading to the game from Tn, It was my wife’s birthday. We read about the UK hardhats on KSR and she gets excited. We enter the arena and she asked one of the guys giving out programs where the hardhats were. He says “They are inside, if your in the lower level”. Well on the way to out seats, in the upper level, she told one of the ushers it was her birthday and she was wondering if she could somehow get one of the hard hats, she told him we were in the upper level. He looked at her, laughed, and said they never give the upper level anything. Still laughing as we walked on to our seats.
I think that is simply rediculous. It was advertised that everyone in attendance would get one. She was not a happy camper to say the least. If that’s the way they are going to treat their fans, who travel for hours to see a game, then I will have to think twice before making that trip in the future. The people in the upper levels are the die hard fans, and the ones who make most of the noise while the “elite” people in the lower level sit on their hands and type on their cell phones. I guess the athletics department is all about the money and not the true fans that make BBN what it is. Lost a lot of respect for UK athletics this weekend.
