I’m about to head to the station for today’s pregame show (tune in at 4:30), but before I do, here are five predictions for tonight’s game against those Skyhawks from Martin, Tennessee.
1. There will be a lot of points.
Kentucky scores a lot, as you know, but did you know UT Martin can fill up the scoreboard, too? Like the Cats, the Skyhawks average over 80 points per game, while giving up 73 to the opposition. The two similar styles means we will likely see a very high scoring contest tonight. Las Vegas has the total at 158.5.
2. Bam Adebayo will have a monster game (barring any foul trouble).
John Calipari made a point to force it inside to Adebayo late in the Cleveland State game and I think he’ll try to work his big man into the action once again. UT Martin doesn’t have anyone who can stop Adebayo once he gets going, so expect big numbers from him if he can stay on the floor. I’m thinking this could be his “WOW” game.
3. Mychal Mulder will continue to push for more playing time.
Mulder’s had two big games this week and I think he’ll make it three in a row tonight. With injuries to Isaiah Briscoe and Dominique Hawkins, Mulder will likely get a ton of minutes and I think he will capitalize on the opportunity. He is very good (better than Hawkins, in my opinion) and fans are starting to notice and want more. He’ll put a little more pressure on Coach Cal to play him with another good night.
4. Brad Calipari will score.
Kentucky has won all five games by at least 21 points (for the first time since 1947) and it’ll be six tonight. UT Martin has been on a brutal road trip this week, so those guys are pretty gassed and ready to get home. We’ll see Brad once again, and this time he’ll hit the open shot, unlike Wednesday when he went 0-for-3. Brad doesn’t miss four in a row.
5. It’ll be a fun night.
Get ready for another grand ol’ time from the action in Rupp Arena tonight. This year’s Cats are so good and so exciting to watch, and UT Martin, though good in its own right, will do nothing to stop the show.
Kentucky wins big. Dunks galore.
