FINALLY, UK announces they will retire Tony Delk’s jersey

Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
UK just announced that they are finally retiring Tony Delk’s jersey in a ceremony on February 21. That’s the Auburn game, which means it will also be Bruce Pearl’s return to Rupp.
Delk was named the Most Outstanding Player of the 1996 Final Four on the way to UK’s national championship, earned first-team All-American honors as a senior, and led the Wildcats in scoring three straight years. He still holds the UK record in three-pointers with 283, ranks second in career steals with 201, and is fifth in scoring with 1,890 points. A true legend.
For you younger folks, here is just a bit about the glory that was Tony Delk and that ’96 team:

This news is so overdue, it deserves even more L’s: FINALLLLLLY!
Long overdue. Tony is a legend.
YES! I was beginning to think we would never retire another jersey again!

F*ck You! They ruled! That’s all you need to know
Well deserved! My senior year at UK was ’96. A hell of a way to go out.
About time! Delk was such a beast!
Awesome. Well deserved. Congrats, TD, and thanks for the memories.
This has been a long time coming for Tony, but does anybody know the rule about a current player wearing it? Will Marcus Lee have to change numbers mid season? Will Marcus have a new number on for the North Carolina game since it’s already been announced?
They’re retiring his jersey, not his number.
Well deserved…now how about Mike Pratt…Justify to me that he is not up there in the rafters
Agreed, it is about $&×^/!/ time!
Double agreement with the Pratt sentiment. Mike is about 20+ years overdue.
This is awesome! I will try my best to be at this game.
A well deserved honor to a UK Legend. That was just one incredible team and a joy to watch. Maybe the best team to ever play in college……at least till this year. GO BIG BLUE!
I thought you said you think we’d lose the next three games???

At this time my confidence that this team wins the next 3 games is very low. Everyone is up for the Cats and when they come out and play with the lack of energy and aggressiveness they showed tonight then several losses will happen. Even the defense sucked for most the night. If I was the opponent I certainly pack in the zone and watch the Cats brick shot after shot. Yes Cats win tonight but this kind of game against the Cards ends in a 20 pt loss.

Wish you were right but the odds these games happen again are very high unless we have dependable 3 pt shooting. Right now this is the worst 3 pt. shooting team Cal has ever had.

The game plan by Columbia is the formula to beat the Cats. This team is totally out of it with this kind of play and really has no way to force the action. There is way too much talent on this team to ever play a game like this against a team like that. Chalk this one down as an embarrassment.
UK really needs to reevaluate the way they honor players. IMO, there are quite a few Names that could and should go up there. And many more that deserve some similar honor if UK can find a different sort of permanent remembrance.
Congrats Tony!!!
