ESPN’s Chad Ford: “Young may be one of the sleepers in the draft”

Mark Zerof | USA Today

Your boy Chad Ford is out in California watching NBA prospects work out for all 30 teams this weekend and he has a report today from the scene that includes some scoop on James Young.

The ESPN NBA draft insider called Young’s size impressive for his position with potential to keep growing because he is still a teenager. He also said scouts loved Young’s shooting ability last summer and early in the season but that he had some questionable shot selection throughout the year. “When he gets good looks, he rarely misses,” Ford added.

And then there is this quote that sums up Young’s overall potential: “Young may be one of the real sleepers in the draft. I’ve always been a big fan and everything I saw here confirmed that he has the potential to be a very good NBA player and should be mentioned in the same breath with all the other elite shooting wings.”

I don’t think James will be the next Kobe, but he has a certain Kobe swagger to him already. Get a 20+ PPG season under his belt and I think we’ll all see that in him. Good luck JY!

What Chad, no mention of his superior passing skills this time?

There are 3 girls at UK who would agree that he’s a sleeper

I of course love this guy but his passing skills are cringe worthy, and that is at the college level. I guess time will tell.

I hope James goes really high. He deserves it. He saved UK in several games. He single-handedly tried to revitalize UK in the NCAA finals. And best of all James always wanted to come to UK because he loved Tayshan Prince. You can’t have a better model than that.
