Duke’s Twitter account trolls Kentucky after Bolden announcement

Screen Shot 2016-05-19 at 1.45.50 PM

It’s finally over and Marques Bolden picked Duke, ending the long Big Blue National nightmare. Kentucky will hang on to the number one class in Rivals and ESPN’s recruiting rankings, while Duke is now in front according to 247 Sports.

That’s all whatever, but what I’m really interested in is Duke’s official basketball Twitter account taking a shot at Kentucky with this tweet:

If you’ve been reading Calipari’s remarks over the last few weeks, that tweet clearly takes a shot at his “we don’t give kids the fish, we give them the fishing rod” speech.

“Our approach is to give them the fishing rod and the lures to help them catch fish, not to just give you the fish,” Cal wrote on May 9.

Oh, it’s on.

It is ON.

UPDATE: Duke deleted the tweet because they are lame, but fortunately, screenshots don’t lie…

Maybe Coach Cal should not have “poked the bear” again?

Eh, my guess is he already knew where Bolden was going. Honestly, the way she reacted she acted like she was the one going to school. Dad was happy and under control. Wish him the best of luck..until they play us 🙂

Duke lands a commit and the first thing their twitter account does is fire a shot at UK… Continue to poke the bear, coach. They keep trying to prove they’re better.

So Cal can go on a high school girl rant, but a twitter account cant say anything? typical

You’re on the wrong message board Dukie. And if their twitter account was so proud of that tweet, then why did they delete it?

A twitter account can’t say anything… Well it can say what someone types, so whoever typed it went on a high school girl twitter troll.

I sometimes think my time is too valuable to be checking my favorite team’s site. But at least my life isn’t so pitiful I have to troll other team’s sites!

      ^^^^^ THIS ^^^^^

Nothing says someone’s life is miserable and without substance than getting on a rival fan’s site trying to provoke total strangers simply because they are fans of another school. “Shakatoosmart” is probably the kind of person who kicks the neighbor’s dog and then laughs about it.

Well, I guess we’ll get to see who the best class is in 2018 when they’re all juniors and UK plays Duke in the Champions Cla… what’s that? They’ll all be in the NBA by then? Alrighty then, moving on.

Marques who? That’s what everyone will say once the ” I screwed KY and went to another school” curse takes effect, and then they suck and their team sucks.

What do LSU and UCLA have in common? They both got a player we wanted really bad and then the player sucked and so did their teams lol

Ben Simmons had an historic year. His team sucked. Let’s not act like he somehow would have been so much better individually here.

@AppleCats No. No it doesn’t. Some speakers and writers use an before a word beginning with the sound /h/ in an unstressed syllable: an historical novel, an hotel. However, where the “h” is clearly pronounced, this usage is now less common, and “a” is preferred

If it was the other way around, we’d be doing the same thing. Cal kind of brought this on himself, and surprisingly he allowed himself to get played by a recruit for the second year in a row.

      How did he get played?

    • ukbradstith
      3:22 pm May 19, 2016 Permalink

How exactly did he get played? He offered a kid, kid went elsewhere, has happened 10 times. Happens to every school 3-4 times a season.

    • Kyblue34
      3:39 pm May 19, 2016 Permalink

He got played because he went “all in” on one center recruit just like he did last year with Zimmerman. Last year we could have easily had Bryant or Stone, possibly Swanigan, if we had just recruited and showed them some love. But Cal totally focused on Zimmerman, and it cost us dearly as we had little to no inside presence last year at all, and Bryant ended up dominating Lee and Skal. This year Allen was practically begging all year to get some love from the UK staff, and once again Cal went all in on Bolden. So either Cal has lost his recruiting skills (which I don’t believe) or he totally got played! At least we have Bam, but he’s going to have to play a lot of minutes at center which is not his natural position. I just don’t understand why we keep putting all of our eggs in one basket. Is Cal just that arrogant now that he thinks he will get every recruit he wants?

any shot at the Allen kid now? I liked his game better anyways.

I remember the days Duke supposedly didn’t celebrate recruiting victories. Like when John wall committed to us, all I heard was “we don’t celebrate recruiting victories, we celebrate championships.” How the mighty have fallen.

It would have been nice to have the kid on board, but it won’t make or break either team, really. I think Bam Adebayo will end up being the better player, anyway, so I’m alright with this recruiting loss. I would still like to see Cal add another piece to the class, but we’ll be just fine the way we are.

      4:22 pm May 19, 2016 Permalink

I’m with you sp. Cal needs to rework his strategy a bit as Coach K seems to be beating him at his own game the past few years. Who cares who won eight months ago in a meaningless November game? Wow, some of our fans are starting to sound like IU fans! I can’t stand Duke or Coach K, but the fact is that Duke has went further in the tourney for the past two years even though we supposedly had better talent and recruiting classes. Doesn’t bode well for next year either now as they will be heavy favorites to win it all, while we’ll be good but probably not great.

    • RealCatsFan
      4:32 pm May 19, 2016 Permalink

UNC was the heavy favorite to win it all, and we know how that turned out. Duke probably would not have gone any further than UK if they had ended up with our seed in the bracket we were in. They always seem to get the easiest path, always seem to get to play at least one game in their own state, and they always seem to have the critical calls go in their favor. If the state legislature doesn’t change the bathroom law, the home court advantage might go away for them next year, and now that Barnhart is on the selection committee, my hope is that UK will no longer get screwed in the pairings. Yes, Duke will probably be the odds on favorite for the NC, but we will be up there too.

Fact is that K will almost certainly retire way before Cal does, and Duke will slide considerably when he is gone, while UK will continue winning. No program has enjoyed the level of sustained excellence through history that UK has. Fact.

The funniest thing about this whole Bolden drama crap was those who really thought he might pick UK. Can not wait to see the ride he has while he is at Duke for one year. Oh yeah he gets paid just not in cash. Cats will be just fine without a guy who will want the ball every possession because he is the show. Cal builds teams and focuses on team play not depending on only one player.

    4:26 pm May 19, 2016 Permalink

I don’t think he is going to go one and done. I don’t think he will get enough looks on that super team. So that might hurt their recruiting in the 17 class. Jeter is still going to be there and if Bolden is there then it’ll be crowded for another center to add to the roster.

Ok basketball fans, nothing else to see, coach Cal and the CATS will be just fine until next March. Time for you all to get behind coach Stoops and the CATS and time to stop bashing your own team, nothing we can do about the loserville trolls. GO CATS!

Maybe KSR has fueled this thought in my mind, but this kid seems like he is more in to himself than he will be in to his team. Cal says time and time again that Kentucky is not for everyone. No doubt he is a great basketball player, but it just seems his attitude would prevent himself from getting lost in his team. The other UK commits seemed like they really wanted him to come to UK so maybe I am way off base with that assumption but it’s just the vibe I get. Best of luck kid.

I’ve said it from the start of this fiasco that Bolden would pick Duke. Seriously… Just look at the kid, how he carries homself, how he speaks, hell even his appearance his “Duke” written all over him. Good riddance to bad garbage and let’s focus on the ALREADY special Freshman that are coming to not only play, but compete. We’ll watch Bolden ride the pine behind established big men at Duke.

I’ve said it for weeks, we didnt need him. People seem to forget we have Humphries and Wynyrd and I look forward to seeing what they can do. Humphries has shown glimpses of who he can be and the future looks good for him if he can keep developing. But, I hope Cal learns a lesson here. He could have had Jarret Allen but he made him wait. I still dont understand why, he seems a better fit.
