Duke lost its third straight and Coach K whined a lot

Kentucky’s not exactly setting the college basketball world on fire right now, and, if it wasn’t hurting our own tournament resume so much, we could take some solace in the fact that Duke’s not either. In fact, Duke’s kind of falling apart. Last night, they lost to Syracuse, their third-straight loss to an unranked team.

There were two controversial no-calls at the end of the game that angered Coach K to the point that he skipped part of the postgame handshake line and sarcastically went off on officials in his postgame press conference, calling the end to the game “amazing.”

“The last play is amazing. Have you seen it? Go see it. It is literally amazing. The play with Matt Jones at the foul line. It is amazing basketball. Let’s just put it that way,” Coach K said. “We put ourselves in a position to win. Matt made a great play and he wasn’t rewarded. He made a great play and it’s amazing. It’s literally amazing. God bless America.”

Here’s the play in question:

Yes, that’s a pretty amazing no-call, but worth skipping half the handshake line?

And chewing out ACC Senior Commissioner Paul Brazeau?

Coach K’s got a reputation as one of the biggest whiners in the sport, but man, that’s taking it to a new level.

I bet they still shot more free throws than Syracuse. The video isn’t loading on my computer so can’t see the no call, but he of all people whining about officiating if something. We can only wish officials will actually turn on him now. Perhaps officials heard the broadcast during a UK game when an announcer said something like Duke has a reputation of getting calls so that is why they get them.

Syracuse went 3-8 and Duke was 6-9 from the free throw line. I didn’t know it was possible for the refs to call so few fouls during a game in Cameron Indoor. On another note, Duke put up 37 threes. 37!!!! Who shoots that many threes?!?!

It looks as if the kid in the bun may have said something negative to him. If that’s the case, I can see why he skipped them.

I really don’t see it. Bun Boy was simply the first one left hanging and he kind of gave K a surprised look as he walked off. There is no possible way to read the guy’s lips when his head is turned the way it is. The chickenhead standing behind Brazeau while he is getting ripped by K is the most hilarious thing in any of these videos, imo.

My 2nd take would assume that he was trying to dodge the cameras to his left as he passed. That seems more feasible.

Another site pointed out that he seemed to be avoiding the players that actually played in the game. Makes some sense after watching it again. (other than the bun guy.)

Man, how awesome would it be if we had last year’s team this year? No one would touch us. I really think 40-0 would have been attainable if we had that roster in place a year later. Kansas and UNC would be the only two teams that would challenge us at all, and they are both flawed.

If the vampire is so upset that he didn’t get the game gift-wrapped for him the way he is used to getting it, maybe he should just throw in the towel and retire. It’s high time! then we could all watch the dookies slide into mediocrity. 🙂

I kinda disagree. I think we wouldve steamrolled through the tournament, but I think we would have lost a game or two in SEC play. Texas AM is much better this year and we barely scraped by them last year. Then you’ve got South Carolina who looks like a legit top 25 team outside of a bad performance at bama. Vandy is also much better (even if their record doesnt show it).

This year’s South Carolina and Vandy teams could not possibly be expected to have a chance against last year’s roster. 40-0 would have been easier this year.. Bilas was saying the other day that this year’s best team could not crack the top 6 from last year. He didn’t specifically mention the 6 teams but I agree with the point.

Just watched the PC, and all I can say is what a putz. Cal would have complimented the opponent and said that they made winning plays and we did not. The whole Duke program gets it’s snotty, entitled attitude straight from the man at the top.

I didn’t think anybody could out-whine Boeheim, but Krtkgbvxyz did it. Having Boeheim in the same building made it even more awesome. Welcome to the rest of college basketball, big guy!

I’m not a Coach K hater and generally think he’s pretty gracious in winning and losing… anyway…

The play GIF above shows the Duke player instinctively go to a hands-up got-knocked-down position rather than fight for the ball – he voluntarily pulls his hands away from the ball and up. Interesting – he’s just about ready to fall backwards when he notices the #23 is not bowling him over.

Unless Syracuse #23 had a grenade on his chest, there’s no justification for the play-explosion the Duke player simulates from the contact. Don’t know if it’s that bad of a no call. That said, I didn’t see the game.

This is exactly why I hate Duke. Jones even tried a semi flop on the play! I noticed in their loss to Clemson a few guards tried flopping (Kennard and Allen). On the Kennard flop the player jumped to the side and didnt even touch Kennard but he flew back like he got hit by a mack truck. The refs are aware of Rat Boys antics. all the above videos are some of the funniest vids I have seen in a long time. Love the rat boy vid of him talking to commisioner. HILARIOUS. Duke will go down in first round of the tourney this year – if they make it to tourney!

Yep! K is just mad that the ref’s didn’t buy the flop that he taught his player to do.

I love how Ray Boy lunges his neck at the commissioner as he is yelling. I think he thinks he can intimidate the guy the same way HE TRIES to intimidate refs. I could care less what he has done in olympics and college ranks, COACH K is flat out the biggest dork, cry baby, joke of a coach ever period end of story… (ok 2nd behind Gillespie).

I actually agree with the non-call; it looks like 2 players going for a loose ball that ran into each other. I’m sure he didn’t say anything about his player tripping the guy at the end of the gif.

This play happens every close game and there is always some foul that is not called. This isn’t the first one every give me a break. Should have played better the other 39 minutes and they would have not been in that situation. Welcome to reality.

looks like 2 guys get to the ball at almost the exact same time and run into each other … then Thornton tries to take out the guy’s legs

This is almost as good as Iverson repeating ‘practice’ over and over. Amazing, we talking Amazing! Rat face can whine with the best of them. I really like the way he gives Syracuse credit for being in the game to start with. Oh, and that dukie going after the ball looks like he was shot by a sniper with a 50cal from the stands. These guys are taught to flop with the best.

The reason why Rat Face gets so many calls is because of his cumulative whining and cussing at officials. They are intimidated by him. That’s why he continues to whine and will always do so.

That is a no call if I’ve ever seen one. Both kids going for the ball. Nobody has possession and nobody had established position. There is nothing to call there regardless of the great acting job by the Dukie. The only thing in that whole gif worth calling would be the duke player tripping the guy chasing down the ball at the end of the gif.

You can bet K called up Swofford and put a verbal whipping on him also.

K is a terrific winner, and as poor a loser as there is……he def comes from the school of Knight-bullying!

I watched the last 10 minutes of that game and Duke got the benefit of a few calls as usual. One play in particular, Plumelee the 8th caught the ball while standing on the baseline and dunked the ball. The AMAZING thing was he was outside the lane on the left side and dunked the ball on the right side of the lane….without dribbling the ball. He took 4 steps to dunk it and the ref was 3 feet from him when all this happened. Later he shuffled his fee again and scored another bucket down low with no call from the baseline official.
