Dominque Hawkins expected to practice today

Dominique Hawkins has been out since the SEC opener with a high-ankle sprain, suffered in the second half against Ole Miss.

Coach Cal said after Tuesday’s win against Mississippi State that Kentucky needs Hawkins “badly” because guys who don’t deserve to play are having to play in his place.

Well today Calipari dropped some good news in his pre-Auburn press conference, telling everyone Hawkins is expected to practice later this afternoon.

“They tell me he is going to practice today, which is good — which is good for us,” he said.

It will be another day or two before we know if Hawkins will be able to go against Auburn, but getting him out on the Craft Center practice floor is a step in the right direction after his immediate future was unclear with that injury.

We need Hawkins to make a Jeff Sheppard-like recovery from his high ankle sprain.
