Diallo named among ESPN’s Top 25 Players in College Basketball

Now that Hamidou Diallo is back on board for a season of college basketball at Kentucky, his name is being tossed around as one of the premier players in the game for the 2017-18 season.

Today, ESPN.com ranked its top 25 players in college basketball, and Diallo was on the list at No. 21.

Here’s what the World Wide Leader’s John Gasaway had to say about UK’s star guard:

21. Hamidou Diallo, Kentucky Wildcats
After enrolling at Kentucky in January, Diallo has a head start on Kevin Knox and the rest of yet another incredibly talented freshman class in Lexington. The 6-foot-5 shooting guard waited to the last minute to withdraw his name from the draft, and now the Wildcats will benefit from his 7-foot wingspan and attacking style. A freshman season featuring a sufficient number of made 3s would likely be enough to put Diallo into lottery territory for 2018.

As for the other 24 players in the rankings, Grayson Allen took the No. 1 overall spot; Missouri’s Michael Porter Jr., a true freshman, landed at No. 2 on the list, behind Allen; and there are a few other notables like Mohamed Bamba at No. 18 and Texas A&M’s Robert Williams at No. 24.

3 dukies on the top 25 list? Including the #1 being a player who can shoot 3s, but can’t guard with anything but his feet. Gee, I wonder who espn is rooting for this year…

It would be such an easy job to predict talent and make pre season top 25 polls and mock drafts. I mean the guy was almost a 1st round lock in this years draft, id hope hes a top 25 college player. But still, it would be a dream to have that job! Writing articles about sports you love and catchig free games in the summer in the AAU circuits. You’re living the dream Drew!

Miles Bridges at #8? Also that Xavier player and Bamba should be top 10. This article is a duke bias piece of crap.

Yeah I didn’t agree with too much on the list. I also thought Joel berry being around 20 was way too high for him too.

Bridges is probably the best returning player in America, and he ought to be # 1 on a list such as thing. Grayson Allen, his lack of character aside, does have some talent, but he’s a marginal top ten guy at best.

Grayson Allen being #1 should tell you something about the list and article.

Diallo would smother G. Allen and shut him down…..just like Briscoe did.

You guys have to remember that these people have to make some story up to justify having a job. Just like last year Duke won the NCAA championship before ever taking court. Then when they went on a losing streak they were overrated. They won the ACC tourney and all the idiots who flopped their initial decision they flopped again arguing that they deserved a 2 seed. I don’t really care if most of the UK team was on this list or not. How can Diallo be named a top player when he never played a second? Bamba? Knox (BBN argument)? Right now SKJ, Gabriel, and Brad Calipari are better than these guys because they have played in games. You can’t call someone a top player when they haven’t played. The article should’ve been on existing players who are returning that seen minutes. They could’ve made a “to watch” segment and then named incoming freshmen as possible best players to watch for. Or most potential

    Too bad BBN… ’cause you can’t spell “N-I-N-E” with “M”,”E” …HAHAHAHA….wait…

Follow the money trail. It’s always that simple. (BTW that’s why ESPN had their mass firings. We’ll watch their games and listen to any idiot they throw up there.) Anyway back to the money trail. Questions ?: Where is the bulk of the money flowing from for sports viewing ? And where is headquarters of ESPN ? That’s right… the East Coast. That’s who they pander to so people keep watching. In this article, there are 5 selections for the ACC and 3 for the BigEast and only 1 for the SEC (1-20, before he gets to Diallo). At the end he allots 9 players from East Coast leagues, 4 each to the B10 and B12. He throws 3 “bones” each to the SEC and PAC12 (1 to WCC, MoValley). Sure the SEC perennially is not a premiere basketball conference, but they ended on an uptick in the tourney and have a lot of talent coming to the league this year. Bottom Line: ESPN (and the national sports outlets) are biased toward the East Coast teams for revenue sake. They hate the notion of Calipari and the “hick” state of Kentucky winning or getting attention for anything.
