Diallo, Gilgeous-Alexander Carry Kentucky to a 95-75 Victory over Buffalo

For the seventh time in nine years, Kentucky is in the Sweet 16.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander steadied the ship and Hamidou Diallo exploded for 20 points to lead Kentucky to a 95-75 win over Buffalo in the Round of 32.  On paper, Kentucky’s performance looked dominant, but that was not always the case.

A strong start put Kentucky up by as much as 12 in the first half, but Buffalo would not go away.  Wes Clark, who finished with 26 points, found his range from behind the three-point line to cut the Kentucky lead to five with 12 minutes to play, but it was not enough to keep up with the Cats.

As the team struggled to fight through foul trouble, Shai took control of the game.  After a 27-point performance, Gilgeous-Alexander now averages 21.8 points per game in the postseason.  Diallo’s energy put Kentucky over the top with a few incredicble dunks.

Kentucky will play the winner of Kansas State-UMBC next week in Atlanta.

Like I’ve always said I like my team come March!! I can’t say I seen diallo having a breakout performance, while Knox had a step back performance but with the way this game was called it doesn’t surprise me!! GOBBN!!!

If you told me before the game that we’d get 8 points and like 18 minutes from Knox, and that Quade kicked in even less, I’d have said “well, that was a fun season. Better luck next year.”

I couldn’t believe Knox had 25 vs Davidson considering typically he has at least 3 or 4 made 3s with those numbers

SGA is becoming perhaps the best Pt in the country.Just going by what I’m seeing. Sad to see him leave after the season,BUT he was seen as a multi year player..So all those dumbasses who always say Cal dosent/can’t develope talent can look at Shai along with a long line of ‘project’ guys…SGA,Booker,Ulis, etc, etc, etc…Cal can flat out develope players!!

Where is the SGA highlight where he spun at the top around a player and layed it up in front of 2 defenders?

This time of year as long as we aren’t playing them I’m always rooting for all the other SEC teams that’s in the tourney. Ecspecially one that’s beat us twice just so it shows everyone we didn’t lose to a bad ball club.

Knox was terrible after the first ten minutes of the game, Quade played terrible the whole game, we were in foul trouble , played without Vanderbilt, yet won by 20 and made it to the Sweet Sixteen. Team of destiny.

Due to foul trouble for Knox. I was shocked he was even in the game to get his third in the first half — remember when (Pitino?) would never play anyone with two in the first half. Easy to Monday morning QB, but that third foul seemed to take him out completely offensively. By the time having three fouls didn’t matter in the second half, he was not really part of the plan.

Knox lives and dies by the “hook”… the refs were calling it so he was ineffective. Next game will be different if the refs swallow their dang whistles!

Didn’t expect them to get out of the first weekend but they finally got some of the breaks that Duke always seems to get with high seeds getting upset and they took advantage of it.

    Well done.

Now, don’t screw up vs. Kansas State (since I think that UMBC like Buffalo, shot their wad in the upset win) and things will really get interesting.

Every time I look at it, that South region looks better and better for the Cats. Still, there is only guaranteed to be one more game in this season. Succeed and proceed!

Slater says…. Cal can’t coach, fire him now. We will be in the NIT. We will be one and done in the NCAA. We need 4 year players, tired of one and dones. And he’s not the only one who said those things.

4 ever would kill himself for john calipari. You still actually think this team can win it. 12 and 13 seeded teams. Gimme a break. You would give your child away to keep cal as coach. Quit with your obsessive ksr cult matt jones worshiping crap.
