Derek Willis Participated in Today’s Shootaround

@CoachCalDotCom
The Kentucky Wildcats desperately need Derek Willis to return to action. We saw them struggle Saturday against Vandy. Heading down the stretch, they need his scoring and his ability to space the floor to create momentum heading into postseason play.
It seemed unlikely that he would play tonight in Gainesville after Calipari said yesterday, “He’s getting closer. I doubt if he plays tomorrow, but he’s going up and down (the court).” During today’s shootaround he went up and down the court, took shots and took contact in the post.
If you don’t believe me, look for yourself, thanks to KYWildcatsTV’s video and Periscope.

Willis looks good moving around without the boot, but we won’t know with certainty if he will play until just before tip-off.

Is Tyler hitting shots?
Encouraging for Willis. Full contact; have to think he might play. Also; it appears its another T-Shirt night on the road in the SEC. We are single-handedly keep T-Shirt companies alive and well in the South.
A most impressive heal time.
But wait… with the swelling Willis had post-injury and my medical degree from ImaginaU, he should’ve been out for the season!!!
Hope he doesn’t come back too early and reinjure himself. We’ll need him more in a few weeks than we need him now.
Whether he plays or not, it still is great just seeing him back on the floor.
I say don’t play him unless we are really missing shots tonight.
Looks as if the Gators have their own version of Big Bertha up in the rafters. Love seeing Willis back in action.
If he isn’t ready to go there’s no reason to bring him back. We could definitely use him but I’d rather lose the next 2 without him and have him healthy for the tournament than risk reinjury
That being said, if he’s out there banging in warmups and practice without any issue then let’s go!
Amazing to see him shooting, considering his muscle was pulled from the bone!
