Around this time two years ago, it was Willie Cauley-Stein going blonde in an unexpected, midseason change of hairstyle. He recorded seven rebounds and nine blocks while going a perfect 3-for-3 from the field in his first game in the new ‘do.
Following Cauley-Stein’s blonde debut, John Calipari said in the postgame press conference, “There’s two things I’m not. I’m not the tattoo police and I’m not the hair police. I don’t care how you make your hair look. I’ll say this: ‘Looking like that, you better play, Willie.’”
I wonder if that was Cal’s response when he saw Willis’ new look for the first time yesterday. Willis posted several shots of his new blonde hair on SnapChat over the weekend, and unless he dyes it back before tomorrow, he will be blonde in the Eastern Kentucky game.
I’ll say this: Looking like that, you better play, Willis.
*** UPDATE ***
According to Derek’s girlfriend on Twitter, he had to dye his hair blonde to dye it silver. So maybe it’s silver. I don’t know and the color of his hair will have no effect on the outcome of any games. I’m just passing along the photo sent to me of the blonde hair. If someone has a photo of him with silver hair, I will post that.
She also told me to “be ready to write an article about how well he will play tomorrow night with his new hair.”
I hope that’s the case. I would love to write that.
