Derek Willis explained the decision to propose on his Senior Night

Derek Willis knew he was ready to propose to his longtime girlfriend, Keely Potts; he just didn’t know when to do it.

“I was trying to figure out the right time to do it and with our busy schedules we don’t have that much free time,” he explained, following the Tuesday night engagement and ensuing basketball game. “I figured this would be an important enough day since it’s a big moment for the both of us being Senior Night. I just wanted to share it with everyone.”

Willis’ teammates didn’t find out until moments before they took the floor, when John Calipari called Willis up in front of the team during the pregame talk. Calipari said, “They gave him a standing-O and hugged him in the locker room.”

Then came the moment, in front of 20,000-plus people in Rupp Arena and cameras all around, when Willis took one knee and went to place the ring on her finger.

As he explained it, “She was pretty nervous and asked me if I was serious. I said, ‘Well yeah.’ She was nervous and has been emotional all week since it’s senior night. When I went to put the ring on her finger her hands were shaking and I asked if she could just keep them still for a second because I was nervous to put it on too.”

“It was a pretty cool moment for me and it meant a lot… I’m glad I could share it with everyone in Rupp Arena.”

I’ll be checking the mailbox for that Save The Date card, you guys.

I hope Derek gets a chance to play pro ball somewhere, or whatever line of work he goes into he can afford to get that girl some jeans with no holes in ’em. 🙁

A little thing called “nerves.” Now that we know his plan to propose, and he seemed a little fidgety, it makes sense.

CatBlue in LR that’s been the style for girls for wearing used looking jeans.

Read about a farmer in Tennessee that buys bargain basement jeans, hangs ’em over a fence, and shoots them with a shotgun and quadruples his money.
