Dean Wade expected to play; Kevin Knox says bring it on

It’s looking more and more like Kansas State big man Dean Wade will play tonight. Jon Rothstein is reporting Wade is expected to go, but will be limited in tonight’s game vs. Kentucky. Wade is Kansas State’s leading scorer, averaging 16.5 points, including 44% from beyond the arc, but missed the last three games with a stress fracture in his foot.

Beating Kansas State would be easier if Wade doesn’t play, but Kevin Knox told reporters yesterday he hopes Wade does so the purple Wildcats don’t have any excuses.

“We know he’s a really good player. He really knocks down the shot and really scores in the mid-range. But us not knowing if he’s going to play or not, we just really focusing on us. We don’t really care if he plays or not. We just want to go out and do what we defensively and offensively. Hopefully, he plays so they have no excuse, but we’re just going to go out and just play our best basketball.”

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s reaction after Knox said this was priceless:

Oh, they ready.

He’s a big white guy. We know he’s limited, injury or not.

      That stat line says otherwise.

Sam Dekker was a big white guy too. Never underestimate your opponent.

God no kidding… and the goofy kid Walsh at UCLA wore us out.

We have kind of had our hands full with big white guys over the past few years (UCLA, Wisconsin, Luke Maye), but, ok. Ha!

He just did to them what Buffalo did to the cats. I’m fine with it, but you better back it up.

I hope I don’t have to eat my words saying this (and yes, I’m knocking on wood as I type this), but one would think that coming off of an injury where he’s been sitting out a couple weeks, he won’t be in great game shape. Even more so if he is “limited”. I’m sure that means he will go off for 30 tonight since I’ve said this, but I just don’t see why we seem to be acting like so big, doofy white guy is going to burn us.

It hurts even typing this but Frank Kaminsky and Sam Dekker would have to disagree with all of these posts about him just being a “white dude”.

A Yeah I don’t know why we are treating this guy like he’s Larry Bird. He is a very good player, 1st team All-Big 12, and all that. But he isn’t some transformative player like Dwayne Wade that will just beat us by himself. If they beat us, and they could beat us, it will be because their team plays well and we are sloppy/lazy/miss every shot.

If I’m wrong and another D-Wade beats us with an otherworldly performance, I’ll be pissed.

Don’t diss on Wade, because he is very good player, plays hard and makes shots from anywhere on the court.

Davidson had a big white kid that shot lights out. Not too shabby. Wiltjer? Nowitzki?
