Dakari Johnson and his new dog want the Friday Morning Wakeup

Screen Shot 2015-08-20 at 7.56.26 PM

Matt may have a problem with people posting pictures of their dog on Instagram, but I clearly do not. Especially when it’s my dog, or a dog that belongs to a UK player. Therefore, I present Dakari Johnson and his new pup, Rowdy. If that’s not enough to make you say “aww,” here’s another pic from Dakari’s mom, Makini:

After this, I’m going to have to go hug my dog.

It’s Friday, so feel free to do a little dance as we roll through today’s agenda…

If you missed it, Isaac Humphries to UK became official

Yesterday, Aussie big man Isaac Humphries confirmed he will join Kentucky and reclassify to 2015. As many of us have, John Calipari compared him to Josh Harrellson.

“I watched Isaac when he first came over to the United States in high school in Indiana and was impressed with his skill and size,” Calipari said. “He reminded me of a much bigger Josh Harrellson. He’s very skilled, has great hands and is a great passer. To have a 7-footer who just turned 17, he has a lot still in front of him, and the best part is he wants the challenge of playing at Kentucky.”

I love Cal for the last line, a definite message to players in the 2015 class that have chosen an easier route with more playing time.

Also, Jamal Murray will be on campus soon

Murray was NOT on the final roster for Team Canada on Thursday, which means he’ll be on UK’s campus very soon. While it’s a bummer that Murray won’t be able to represent his country at FIBA Americas, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t relieved he’ll be in Lexington earlier to bond with his teammates. The more time in that incubator, the better.

Drew’s been on his Photoshop game this week

I love Patrick Towles’ moxie

UK’s starting quarterback/HP aficionado went on The Paul Finebaum Show yesterday to talk about the Cats, and didn’t hesitate when Pawwwl asked him his expectations for the season.

“I think we can get to Atlanta, and I can say that with as much confidence as I’ve got. We’ve got the pieces in place, we’ve got the coaches, and we’ve got the guys. I’m confident in my receivers and my offensive line and my defense. We’ve got leaders all around. I have no doubt in my mind, we have the talent to get to Atlanta.”

While I saw a lot of jokes on Twitter saying the only way Kentucky could get to Atlanta was to drive by on their way to Athens, I love Patrick’s moxie. Of course, you always want your QB to be confident, but Patrick could have deferred to the safe coach-speak line of “We’re only worried about the next game.” I’m glad he didn’t. If you’re the leader of a program like Kentucky, you’ve got to put yourself out there if you want to make some noise.

We’ll hear from Patrick and the offense this afternoon

After a day off, I’m itching for some football news. It’ll come this evening when the offense addresses the media. Personally, I’m hoping to hear more about the budding chemistry between Patrick and his receivers, and whether or not Boom Williams is back at full strength. And if Ryan Timmons is out of that boot.

Kent Bulle starts a big run in Knoxville

KSR’s favorite golfer is tied for 29th at 3 under in the News Sentinel Open down in Knoxville and continues his run starting at 9:30 a.m. He’ll have Drew there to cheer him on, along with the rest of us following along on

High School Football begins

And KSR will have our preps writer Trey Huntsman on the scene for Pikeville at Prestonsburg. For more high school coverage, click here to see Trey’s games of the week, and if you’re in Prestonsburg, please go say hello. Also, go Ads. Larue has no chance.

In turn, it may be a “Friday Night Lights” kind of day around the KSR Nashville compound

Like clockwork, every August I rewatch “Friday Night Lights” (my strides per minute triple when Dillon takes the field). With cool temperatures on tap and high school football starting up, I have a feeling tomorrow may be a FNL type of afternoon. If time allows, look for a Top 5 Best/Worst FNL Characters post. I have strong thoughts about this, but leave your picks in the comments.

Isaac Humphries will call in to the show

Want to get to know our mysterious new basketball player? Tune in to the show at 10:30 a.m. to hear him talk to the BBN for the first time. Hopefully Ryan won’t tell him to throw another shrimp on the barbie.

Most of the flack I heard on the radio here is loserville was from the UL fans and UL radio people, saying how Towles shouldn’t say that stuff cause UK was terrible and won’t ever get to SEC championship game. So I figured if they spent their show talking about it then it couldn’t be a bad thing.

Stick to the meth. And its “Towles”, you illiterate mouth-breather.

I prefer to call him Towels, because opposing defenses use him to wipe up the field.

I’ve watched FNL (almost) annually, as well, and I usually watch about 2 episodes per night as I workout during the Fall. In addition to some good characters (going to be difficult to narrow down to a top 5) I like the show for the soundtrack as much as for any other reason.

Not sure what your criteria are for Best/Worst Characters are, but here are my 5 best off the top of my head.

1T. Tami Taylor (the dynamic between the Coach/Coach’s wife was the most important element of the series, overall, and the writers/actors nailed the dynamic pretty well, I think)
    1T. Eric Taylor (see above)
    3. Tyra Collette
    4. Buddy Garrity (although a caricature/amalgam of every overzealous HS booster, he’s a pretty good one…)
    5. Landry Clarke

    Honorable Mention:
    Tim Riggins
    Corrina Williams
    Smash Williams
    Mrs. Saracen
    Jess Merriweather

Have to think more about the 5 worst. Characters you dislike? Worst acting jobs? Characters not developed? Overrated? What are your criteria for worst characters?

I have the complete series on DVD and have watched it 3 times, so far.
      I don’t really have a top 5 but, my 5 favorites (besides Mr. & Mrs. T)
      The Riggins
      Matt & Julie
      Becky and her mom
      The Collette ladies
Landry was great all 5 seasons.

Don’t really have “a worst list” but I didn’t care for J.D. McCoy and his family, Epyck and “The Swede”.

It’s to bad the writers went on strike during season 2 because there was 7 episodes not made

Drew’s photo shop work made the Paul FInebaum show on SEC Network. Paul didn’t know how to take it.
