A new position in the SEC’s league office is now available.
Mark Whitehead, who has been the Coordinator of the SEC’s Men’s Basketball Officiating since 2016, has stepped down from his spot, according to a statement released earlier on Tuesday by SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey.
“I appreciate Mark’s work and his investment of time and effort the last four seasons to improve the SEC officiating program,” Sankey said in the release. “He was tireless in his dedication to the position and we will miss his enthusiasm for the sport of basketball that brought our officiating program to a new level.”
Before making the leap to Coordinator of Officiating, Whitehead had been a longtime basketball referee, at one point covering 22 consecutive NCAA Tournaments, including five Final Fours, while working in the SEC, Big 12, Big Ten, Pac-12, American, Mountain West, Conference USA, and Missouri Valley conferences.
The SEC has stated they will immediately begin its search for a replacement.
