Coach Slice mixed up the lineups to, “keep from getting voted off the island”

Darrell Bird | CatsPause

After 198 minutes of UK basketball in the Bahamas with nothing but the same two five-man rotations, Slice Rohrssen, UK’s head coach on Saturday, mixed it up in the final two minutes to try and hang on to the Cats’ close lead against Chalone-Reims. Coming out of a late timeout, Slice sent out the game-ending lineup of Tyler Ulis, Andrew Harrison, Aaron Harrison, Marcus Lee and Dakari Johnson. That group managed to get the job done and escape with the win. despite playing together for the first time.

In his postgame interview, Rohrssen said he made the call to, “keep from getting voted off the island.” Today’s game was the closest of UK’s five in the Bahamas and the only one the Cats could’ve potentially lost in the final stretch.

The decision to mix it up likely kept a For Sale sign out of his yard. BBN wants 6-0 this week.

Leaving Tyler Ulis in made Coach Rohrssen look like a genius. His steal and layup may have saved the win. Go big Blue! beat the Dominican republic tomorrow to finish this tour 6-0.

Anybody else wish we had Tyler Ulis against, Devan Downey, Kemba Walker, Shabazz Napier, et al

I saw him play for the first time today. He definitely changes the dynamics of the game! His defensive pressure is totally disruptive. I saw a larger guard try to “muscle” him. Nope. He is a bulldog. It is going to be fun watching him play this year. It’s going to be fun watching this team play this year. I’m sure other teams will try and muscle this team. We have too much depth for that to work.

Seams like fatigue is setting in, or it could be the fact that they think they can just blow past these dudes when they can’t. They play like they did from the past 5 games, yes, they’ll win tomorrow. Play like today with that kind of mindset? They’ll get handled tomorrow.

Fortunately it’s just August and I am proud of these kids.
