Coach Cal: “We Still Have Not Peaked.”

It took a few months, but John Calipari believes his team is starting to show signs that they’re coming together.

“This is a process and it is every year.  It’s a brand new team,” Calipari said on tonight’s call-in show.  “It takes some longer than others, but when you have a bunch of good kids who are trying to do the right thing, it’s a process.”

It’s not the Philadelphia 76ers’ process.  His process involves experimentation with different players to find the proper chemistry for his team.  He’s done a lot of different things in practice. Giving his assistant coaches more responsibility is one thing that he is certain worked.  “Just know that I’m going to do everything I can and push every button and try different things.”

Still, this team has a long way to go.  “We still have not peaked.  There may be some teams out there in the country that have, but we’re not one of them.

The team looked like they had figured it all out earlier in the season, but that all changed once their opponents finally figured the team out.  “We hit a little lull, but it is what it is,” Cal said.  “You’re going this with 18-19 year olds, it takes time.”

With just over a week until the start of the SEC Tournament, time is running out.  “Let’s just hope in a couple of weeks we get all this stuff together.”

They peaked back in December. Coach talk. I agree with Matt. Cal thought he had an unstoppable team early and got lazy with his coaching. These guys thought they could cruise through games and it hurt them fundamentaly. If he woulda worked their asses off from the beginning like he is now we would have been in better shape. They are playing better. Monk has to get 30 in every game in tournament to have a chance at final four run

Yes you nailed it. Cal got lazy. I’m sure it’s why we’re “only” 23-5. Congrats on your obvious observation.

You’re considering a peak to be the best they’ve played so far. You should consider there are still plenty of games left. FYI, I’m not knocking you because you’re not a fanboy, I get several things you have posted, but, it’s unfair to say they have peaked before the final game has played.

You are reasoning with Slater like he’s really a UK fan. He’s a troll. Not a particularly good one, but that’s what he is nonetheless.

This team didnt peak in December. They werent playing defense at all then. They are playing better defense now. They are learning to play half court offense, which they never really had to do before. We were getting 30+ points in transition. This team is getting better finally. They play with heart, passion and the Seniors are playing a huge role in the rebuild. Getting gret balance. Monk can get 25+ a game if he just drives to the rack.

I agree. Monk needs to stay agressive and not dissapear. I think Fox’s quick trigger and Briscoe’s turnovers has hurt

I like it! I think Cal is ready to ride Monk and Bam to the final four. With a little luck, even farther.

Now that Orlando Antigua is free let’s bring him back and replace Barbee.

Coach O brought in better recruits than Barbee… let’s make this happen.

No Championships ever since Barbee has been on the bench.

Barbee doesn’t even look like you could trust him to park your car straight. Let’s be honest.
