It took a few months, but John Calipari believes his team is starting to show signs that they’re coming together.
“This is a process and it is every year. It’s a brand new team,” Calipari said on tonight’s call-in show. “It takes some longer than others, but when you have a bunch of good kids who are trying to do the right thing, it’s a process.”
It’s not the Philadelphia 76ers’ process. His process involves experimentation with different players to find the proper chemistry for his team. He’s done a lot of different things in practice. Giving his assistant coaches more responsibility is one thing that he is certain worked. “Just know that I’m going to do everything I can and push every button and try different things.”
Still, this team has a long way to go. “We still have not peaked. There may be some teams out there in the country that have, but we’re not one of them. ”
The team looked like they had figured it all out earlier in the season, but that all changed once their opponents finally figured the team out. “We hit a little lull, but it is what it is,” Cal said. “You’re going this with 18-19 year olds, it takes time.”
With just over a week until the start of the SEC Tournament, time is running out. “Let’s just hope in a couple of weeks we get all this stuff together.”
