Coach Cal Visits Man Injured in Rupp Arena

Photo from Watterson Elementary (@Watterson_5)

We’ve heard the story of Dick Gregory, UK fan who hurt his back while keeping his wife safe at Rupp Arena, all through the year.  Well, even though it was a big headline for a while, getting picked up nationally by the likes of CBS’ Gregg Doyel, Coach Cal went out of his way to remember this super-fan even after the everyone had already heard the story.  Because for Cal it’s not about headlines (even though we’ll give them to him), it’s about remembering the “crazy” people that cheer for you regardless of circumstance.

Glad to see Mr. Gregory’s still wearing Blue.

Should there be a link with this story? Corey’s last post seemed to be missing a lot of links with bold text where you would expect a hyperlink to be.

Glad to see another red is a cats fan. I’ve said it for years, how they are both very similar. These are two of the largest fan bases worldwide and will travel to the end of the world to follow their club/team. They were both floating towards obscurity until a man came in and reversed their fortunes(Adolph rupp and bill shankly). And then their assistant or number 2 took over for them and brought even more success(joe b hall and bob paisley). There’s plenty more, but I’ll leave it there for now I was very glad to hear Matt and Ryan talking about how they watched the 30 for 30 on hillsborough. Maybe BBN can adopt them as our English equivalent now? Now if we can just get rupp arena to sing “you’ll never walk alone” before games, we’ll be really cookin. YNWA

The man is probably still wearing blue since he is paralyzed and therefore cannot change clothes.

Uh, no. Do you actually think he’d be in the same clothes as he was wearing in November? People can change his clothes for him. Geez.

I mean at that point does it really matter? As long as you change the diaper then everything is good!

We love you Liverpool, we do! Echoing others, it’s fantastic to see my two favorite sports teams represented within this post, and I’m equally excited that other Cats fans have mentioned their love for Liverpool. Yes, AO, Rupp belting out YNWA would be absolutely amazing! Four more, boys.

This story breaks my heart and I’m sure it breaks Cal’s. Cal is a great human being and I want him to coach at UK for the rest of his life if possible.

Why does it break your heart? It didn’t happen to you or your family?

I’ve often thought that Rupp should erupt with a rendition of “My Old Kentucky Home” right before tipoff and again with a couple of minutes left in the game, win or lose no matter what, “You’ll Never Walk Alone Style”.

The moral of this story is to not sit in the top part of Rupp Arena, football bleachers? What a joke; Rupp Arena is a TERRIBLE arena!

Also it is a complete shame that the State would fund and keep funding the White Elephant of the Yum Center while UofL gets to keep the massive flood of alcohol revenue and Rupp Arena crumbles in all of it’s 70’s decayed grandeur.
