Coach Cal: “Karl Towns is way better than I thought”

Well this is exciting to hear. During his pre-Bahamas press conference today, Coach Cal raved about his new freshman big man, Karl Towns. Towns was highly-touted coming out of high school and he’s already a top 10 projection in next year’s NBA draft, yet he still managed to exceed Calipari’s early expectations.

“Karl is way better than I thought, when I saw him in high school,” Cal said today. “I mean, I coached him a little bit, but he never got in games and it was mostly practices and we were playing so many games he really didn’t do that much with the national team. So, in high school you saw him; he’s got a ways to go now. What I’m seeing right now is a very active player that’s skilled and runs better than I ever thought he’d run. That’s now without really getting into the season and doing anything.”

Someone give me a high-five one time. Here we go, Cats.

How do you not start him? If it was up to me I would go big and put him at Power Forward with Dakari/Willie at Center. The Brothers Harrison at 1 and 2 guards with Poytheress/Booker at the 3. Just my opinion.

I think he should start as well, and have him play the 3 on offense, and Poythress the 4. On defense, they switch up positions. Allows them both to use their strengths and hide their weaknesses.
