Cincinnati falls to Nevada, Kentucky now top seed in the South

And just like that, Kentucky’s path to a Final Four has been gift-wrapped to us.

The Nevada Wolf Pack just knocked out two-seed Cincinnati, leaving Kentucky as the top remaining seed in the South.

And the Bearcats lost in the most embarrassing way possible.

To make it to San Antonio, the Cats will have to take on either (16) UMBC or (9) Kansas State, and then (11) Loyola or (7) Nevada.

John Calipari has complained about Kentucky’s death region year after year, and it looked like the Cats were given one yet again this season.

Now, despite the Selection Committee’s best efforts, Virginia, Cincinnati, Tennessee, Arizona, and Miami are all out.

Time to capitalize, Coach Cal.

Starting with the 16 seed winning… Extremely slim.

I’ve never seen the planets align for us in such a way before. It’s almost like God wants to see Vanderbilt play again this year too.

He better capitalize. We should have at least 3 championships already.

Well let’s just go back and say all former UK coaches should have 3 each also.

He should, given we lost as the best team in the country at least twice. But based on recruiting alone, Duke and UK should face each other for the title every year.

Obviously there’s more to it and winning with super young teams is ridiculously hard.

If anything should show you it’s not about who is the best team, this year is a prime example… Randomness happens… No matter who the coach of UK Is, we will never be satisfied…

It’s hard even with a veteran team, there is a certain element of luck involved.

Many of them are. To say Cal should have 3 is really dumb. It’s one game. Anything can happen. If it were best of seven Cal would have 2 more. But it’s a crap shoot. It’s not easy to be the last one standing of 64, 66 whatever it is, teams.

That loss to Wisconsin will never be forgotten. Worst end game coaching I have ever seen in bball at any level. Regardless, there are only two teams left that concern me. Duke and Villanova.

I thought UK’s 31 point deficit with 10 minutes to go in the 2nd half against LSU aka the Mardi Gras Miracle was the greatest comeback in NCAA history unless you are talking about the greatest NCAA Tournament comeback.

We can’t overlook any of these teams, especially given the way we revert, but good God, we’ve been handed a virtual cake walk. It’s a good thing given how unsteady we can be, but going back a month or two, none of us would’ve expected this. Especially if you told us Vanderbilt’s not playing.

A few weeks ago we were agonizing as the UK players, indivisdually and collectively, were lacking even in basic basketball fundamentals (i.e. drive to the lae with purpose, hit he boards will length/strength/two hands, not moving without the basketball, hustle, pull up jump shots, being lock down defenders, talking on both ends of the court, etc.).

I don’t know what happened but since that Florida game this team, and coaches, have come together with a flow, toughness, and purpose that not only makes them competitive at both ends but emhpasises their length. Their height. And their talents. Though Shai has become a true blue blood, and probably a first round sleection in the NBA Draft, we have seen remarkable improvements with Hamill Knox, PJ, Wenyan, Sasha,

Good things can happen if this team continues to progress and IF Jarred gets healthy that’s the icing on the cake. But, if this team puts together breakout games by 2 – 3 players per game they will be successful.

This team is playing its best ball of the year and with every round of games the road somehow gets easier… this has been insane but wow looking at our potential matchups… this is doable, one at a time!

It’s amazing that UMBC scored at will against VA the second half, but can’t do anything with K. state. Don’t think either of these teams will beat us if we stay out of foul trouble.

Don’t count on Vanderbilt. Missouri played , probably the number one Pick in this coming years NBA draft. He wasn’t ready to play. It got Missouri beat.

Well I don’t really know where to start here… two totally different players.. Porter will not be the #1 pick in the draft (granted he’ll be a high pick) and mizzou needs him way more than we need Vanderbilt, no disrespect to him he’s huge for us we just have a lot of talent and other guys we can go to

      Not pressure, opportunity….

But it is true that the only team now that can keep Kentucky out of the national title game is the Cats themselves.

    • ClutchCargo
      8:57 am March 19, 2018 Permalink

Why is there more pressure on Cal and the Cats than any of the other 15 remaining teams? I’m pretty sure everyone is playing to try to win the title. If anything, we are playing with house money, since quite a few of our fans left this team for dead when the going got tough this season.
