The University of Kentucky will induct six new members into the UK Athletics Hall of Fame: Chuck Hayes, Rich Brooks, Wesley Woodyard, James Johnson (wrestling), Molly Johnson-Belcher (softball) and Bernadette Madigan-Dugan (cross country/track and field).
This year’s Hall of Fame weekend is September 23-24. It’s the same weekend UK will host South Carolina, unveiling a new statue outside of the new Football Training Center featuring the four African-American players who helped integrate the Southeastern Conference.
After sharing their greatest successes together on the football field, it’s fitting that Woodyard and Brooks will be inducted into the UK Hall of Fame together. The bowl trophies they brought home were nice, but their win over No. 1 LSU is considered by many to be their crowning achievement. You can re-watch that game on the SEC Network tonight at 6:00.
Before Hayes began his 11-year NBA career, he was a fan-favorite in Lexington. The 2005 SEC Defensive Player of the Year was undersized, but never backed down from bigger opponents. He was nasty on the court, but he couldn’t have kinder off the court, especially when accompanied by Juvenile.
