Charles Matthews on ESPN’s preseason #NoLoveTeam

Charles Matthews was always the forgotten member of the 2015 recruiting class, but as a freshman, he’s quickly earning a reputation as an athletic slasher who’s not afraid to go right at the rim. To anyone who’s paid attention to John Calipari’s remarks in the offseason and preseason, Matthews’ potential is no surprise, and now, he’s become the trendy unsung hero of the squad, making Sean Farnham’s Preseason #NoLoveTeam on ESPN Insider:

3. Charles Matthews, Kentucky Wildcats

How can a freshman at Kentucky not be receiving the love he deserves? Big Blue Nation shines the spotlight on every player, yet few people know how good Matthews can be for the No. 2 Wildcats this season. The 6-foot-6 product from Chicago was once a top-20 prospect but slid down recruiting rankings as injuries hampered his high school career. Matthews has the potential to be a lockdown perimeter defender. So while Skal Labissiere, Jamal Murray and Isaiah Briscoe garner most of the national attention, keep an eye on Matthews this season as he continues to grow into his role for coach John Calipari.

Keep it up and everyone will know your name soon, Charles.
