Charles Barkley on Kentucky-West Virginia

charles-barkley-lamar-odom

So we will play the Mountaineers again for the third time in the last five NCAA Tournaments. On paper, it isn’t a great matchup for West Virginia (despite what Doug Gottlieb says), because speeding up Kentucky has been a recipe for disaster this season. But, this team is physical and could potentially rough up UK a bit. Still, when Charles Barkley was asked about the matchup, he laughed and then said, “Ernie, that’s gonna be a beatdown. West Virginia wants to run and the one thing you don’t want to do against Kentucky is run…it’s going to be a dunk fest.”

Charles knows.

Here’s to hoping that none of our guys get “Trimble’d” by their “defense”.

Cincinnati set the game back 20 years with the way they played and West Virginia is exactly the same way.

UK disposed of Cincy, can they do it again?

Agree with the “Round mound of rebound”.

    40 – 0, Baby!

Charles knows? I hope you’re kidding. This is not good news. He knows nothing about current college basketball and every prediction he makes is wrong.

      Melvit:

Well remember Sunday he said at halftime of the Kansas-Wichita State game that Alexander was playing “pretty good” for KU. As everyone knows Alexander didn’t play because of an NCAA investigation into if one of his parents received improper benefits from an NBA agent.

Let’s just say that Barkley doesn’t know the college game like the NBA.

Cal has a few days to get the men back on track. He will succeed.

Only two things WVU does that scares me is offensive rebound and press…they had 14 off rebounds vs Maryland and Cincy hurt us there but could not finish the putback. We must not turn it over vs their press and give them easy baskets. They will struggle to score against us like all teams have unless we give them easy hoops off turnovers. Plus if we bat that press it will be lob after lob.

Offensive rebounding is the only concern, bring on the press and get run out of the gym. They also foul more than any time in the country and we are Top 5 at drawing fouls. I hope to see the twins in attack mode because they will live on the free throw line if they are driving to the basket.

jsh2001 … cue up the whiners that look at the discrepancy in free throws completely out of context of the game.

Why would pressing us concern you? We often have 3-4 tall ball handlers on the court. I wish every team pressed us. It speeds up the game, thus exagerating our advantage.

I hope they press us. Pressing this UK team is a fools errand. Every team that has tried it has been punished for it.
