CBS Sports: “John Calipari will have his youngest Kentucky team ever – and still likely be good”

2017-class

After reports that Bam Adebayo is staying in the draft and Hamidou Diallo is considering it, it’s clearer than ever that next year’s team is going to be YOUNG. The biggest “veteran” coming back is Wenyen Gabriel, who averaged 4.6 points in 17.8 minutes this past season. Still, having a young team is no new task for John Calipari, and while a lot of fans are frustrated at the thought of another blank slate, CBS Sports’ Gary Parrish is here to remind you that history shows that Kentucky will probably be fine.

Calipari’s four teams that have relied on freshmen to score more than 60.0 percent of their points were the 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2017 teams — and three of those freshmen-heavy teams (2011, 2013, 2014) lost six SEC games, which isn’t good. But let the record show that three of those four teams (2011, 2014, 2017) still made the Elite Eight. And two of those four teams (2011, 2014) still advanced to the Final Four.

My point: Even when UK’s young teams “struggle” they tend to finish impressively.

So, another roller coaster season, which means we need that talent to be really elite. Looking at you, Bamba!

Whew, lot of negativity here today; unless I’m wrong, we still have the No.1 class coming in. Best comment of the day, someone said I see stupid people…that person is right; I see a lot of stupid people.

The stupid fans are the delusional ones like you. We aren’t bringing in a top tier player as of yet. Our pg isn’t even close to being one of the best cal has had at UK. We have a few project players. The same caliber as SKJ. And you all last year were hyping him up so bad…

Oh oh, I see another one.
What about “The No.1 recruiting class” don’t you understand?

Not all number one classes are created equal. How did the Noel number one class turn out for us??

The only stupid ones are the same Cal loving one and done sucking biased fans that worship the ol mighty cal. He wont win another title with this flawed system. Keep being satisfied without titles. You play to win the game!! Especially when you supposedly have the best players. Ranked 1 recruiting class or not UK will struggle big next year. No leadership what so ever. Its funny the same ol guys stay on here year round just to combat criticism. You guys would be fine with rounds of 32. Just like cal players first

Cals one and done are nothing more then a good junior college team playing against the big schools.

Lol that team was going nowhere before he got injured. It just cracks me up that some of you all just can’t see reality. Cal calls UK the gold standard. But he can’t get number one players anymore. Duke and uconn have more championships since he’s been here. He’s tied with Louisville. It’s just silly you all accept this and attack other fans for
      Bringing it up.

How was UConn this year? Duke? Louisville? We were far closer to a NC than all of them and with the exception of one year have always been in the hunt. If a NC is your ONLY criteria for greatness then EVERY team- EVERY SINGLE TEAM sucks greater than 90% of their seasons.

The Dunning- Kruger Effect is evidenced above nicely by AG and Stan.

if they get Bamba then things can turn out very good. Diallo is a blow to the backcourt and Evan Daniels kept saying every time he mentioned Diallo that him going to the NBA was a real possibility.

Losing Diallo will be a disaster. He is the one key scorer needed for next year, especially considering he had that valuable time working with the team late in the year. His transition would not have been as difficult.
Let’s face it folks…this next year will be very interesting, exciting, and completely frustrating at the same time. They will likely lose 10 games or more, not win the SEC title, but will hopefully round into shape late in the year to make a run for the title. Personally, I see it as the proverbial “re-building” year.

Really what good does it do to have the number one class when they leave before they grow up. get lucky once with a championship but since then it’s really not been close. I’m a life long fan but I really hate the one and done and guess what we are not the only school that does it anymore and we aren’t getting the number one’s anymore. This player first bullshit is out of control. It’s hard to be interested in players that are gone before they even play one game really. Is this what Kentucky basketball has come to? Is this really what the fans want to see year in and year out. You cant even get on this site without hearing the phrase the” Latest Draft board Projects”. Its already starting with the 2017 class and they haven’t played one damn game yet. sick of it. we are whats wrong with college basketball sorry for the rant but damn Ive had a crappy day! lol
