CBS Puts Three Cats In First 2017 NBA Mock Draft

CBS Sports put out their “Way Too Early” NBA Mock Draft for 2017 on Friday. Three Kentucky players were listed as first round picks. Here are Sam Vecenie’s projected first rounders and notes on Bam.

5. Los Angeles Lakers- Bam Adebayo- Adebayo is Kentucky’s best prospect this season, a powerfully built 6-foot-10 power forward who operates well in the pick-and-roll due to his mobility and attacks there rim with impunity due to his explosiveness. He operated well in AAU with the No. 7 player on this list, Dennis Smith, and should work well with Kentucky next season. Something to watch for: he flashed a jump shot at lower levels. If he can bring that, he’s a potential top three pick.

10. Portland Trailblazers- De’Aaron Fox

22. Miami Heat- Malik Monk

SB Nation has four players in their top 30, with Wenyen Gabriel making an appearance.

Why is everyone sleeping on Malik Monk? What did he do to drop on the big board and in the rankings? I still think he is going to be the best player on UK next season.

I do think Monk is ganna be really good but when you say why is everyone sleeping on him and don’t back up why you think he’s ganna be that good you’re doing the same as them and serve no purpose with youre comment. I think Bam will be one of the best big men in the country because of his size and skills around the rim. A kid that size coming out of high school is a rarity, he is the size of poythres or even jones coming straight out of high school and think he is ganna surprise a lot of people that like to say these kids are unproven and haven’t played at this level yet.

2017 mock draft is laughable at this point, but it does give us something to discuss during this down time of sports.

I think by February we will see several Cat’s in the 1st round mock drafts. The saying you can’t teach height is so true, heart and athleticism are other factors. Calipari will push all of them to limits they don’t know they have. Bam will be near the top if he doesn’t get hurt. Imagine Tristin Thompson with a shot and free throw ability. Bam is that size and relentless around the glass. Bam would eat Terrence Jones lunch every day. TJ has good skills, but little motor and look how high he went in the draft.

Gabriel is 6’10”, 6’11” with long arms and a shot. The NBA drafts on ready to use skill, but mostly potential upside is what scouts are looking for and Gabriel has that. I think Gabriel will go in the first round if his motor is high. I think Jones has a ways to go, but is 6’11” and still very raw. His motor will determine when he is NBA ready.

Fox is a really good player with great passing skills and lightning fast. Cal will push him hard. I think he is a lottery pick. Monk’s shot will determine how high he goes. He has blazing speed and when his outside shot is falling it will take a double team to stop him, but consistency with that 3 is his ticket to lottery. Murray went #7 with mostly a shot. Monk and Fox will be very good defenders so developing consistency with a shot will put them high in the draft not #25.

The funny thing is when the draft happens next year we’ll either have president Trump or Clinton. Geesh.
