Not exactly a blowout. But it’s a W. This team has a long way to go to be a great team. Not sure we have the personnel. Bam was great. Monk just went through the motions. Willis needs to play more.

Expectation will bring anyone to their knees! Cats are young irregardless of who they play. They are learning to play through ugliness amd maintain a lead and win when other things arent working well. Gabriel, Mulder, Willis huge D liabilities. I think Gabriel has got to be the worst, next Mulder then Willis. Willis should start.

Gabriel hit a couple of big threes when we needed them.

Briscoe had 9 pts, 5 rebs and 3 asst. he also fouled out. Gabriel looks like a fawn trying to guard somebody on the perimeter. If anyone should start ot should be Willis or Mulder instead of Gabriel. I think a shake up in line up would work. Fox needs more shooters. When he drives he is left with bricksoe, gabriel and monk. If monk isnt hitting then the defense has already collapsed on fox and if he passes to an open bricksoe you know he is gonna shoot to prove he is a better shooter and misses, gabriel is so inconcsistent with a 3 its a toss up. Wrong personnel. Bricksoe should play in place of fox not coexist. They both play the others position. Mulder amd willis on the court at the same time as Monk and Fox is deadly. But who knows. I know Cal is competitive as hell and if there is a way to get this right then he will. 3 games left and SEC Tourny before judgement day. Still time. Just be glad they didnt play like this and the next game is the NCAA tourny. Alot can happen in 3 games and even more can happen in an extended tourny showdown SEC. beat the Gators!

This team should have been beaten by 16-20 with the talent gap. I think this team has a low BB IQ. At this stage we still CANNOT defend the pick and roll ANYWHERE on the court. Willis and Gabriel both sleep walk way to much and Fox and Briscoe make some boneheaded plays. This team is really difficult to watch.

Lack of a diverse offense, pick and roll defense, defense in general, turnovers, officiating, and the super bowl effect held the cats back tonight. A win is a win, but they have a lot of work to do before Saturday. All will be forgotten if we can beat the gators. Hopefully monk actually shows up and drops 50. Hopefully fox gets his knee right. I’m still wondering how good this team actually is?

So in the tourny if we win by 1 or by 10 does it matter?!?!? No. Survive and advance. I think Cal secretly likes games like this bc at least they are being put in stressful situations. Survive and Advance. They got 3 more games. 2 at Rupp amd 1 at AM. Lets hope Rupp gets em some momentum into SEC. remember the randle team loss i believe their last 4.

      11:59 pm February 21, 2017 Permalink

Bam?!?!? Monk amd Fox have been playing better defense. Briscoe to aggressive still but plays with heart. Hawkins plays hard but doesnt give enough offensively. You cant afford to keep someone like Monk on the bench for long I mean at anytime dude can heat up. He scored 18 points in 3 mins. Monk has been improving his rebounding and defense. The last 3 their PG missed was bc Monk contested tge 3 on a pick and roll.

    • unbridled
      12:09 am February 22, 2017 Permalink

Come on now. How many times did monk and fox get completely embarrassed by their guy slashing to the basket tonight? The defensive “drop off” to mulder is not very large. The team as a whole is not defensively sound and it doesn’t look to be getting vastly better anytime soon. We HAVE to score. Monk not fox had a good offensive night. I’m sorry but when monk is not scoring…he needs to sit.

He’s a transfer and wasn’t a 5 star. Cal doesn’t look bad if he doesn’t make the show. Briscoe was highly touted and was supposed to make the show. Call looks very bad if he doesn’t. Harrison Twins part deux.

I’m more concerned about A&M than Florida. You know we’re going to get torqued down there and their center will get away with murder on both ends against Bam. That guy should foul out every game he plays. I expect to see Bam riding the pine most of the 1st half and fouling out. Bank on it.

Refs had nothing to do with this game being close, our play did. We had less fouls and shot 5 more free throws on the road.I saw several plays where a foul could have been called on us and they did not call it.

      11:52 pm February 21, 2017 Permalink

Yes. It has become rediculous. I try and try to think the officials don’t have an effect on the game. But I definitely don’t get how the called the walk on wenyen. That call, and many others, kept Mizzou in the game.

Officiating definitely helped keep this game close. The travel called on Gabrielle was atrocious and quite pivotal. Down the stretch, they vacated their previous officiating style and let mizzuo gang rape uk…while calling marginal contact on uk. I agree that the cats played really bad, but absurd officiating played a small factor.

Yessir. I think the reason bam until today has gone through somewhat of a slump is because everyone telinng him to play more aggressive. He tries, and the players flop and get away with it because he is so huge. Hopefully this rebooted his confidence.

Great to see Cal sticking by his mouth. He sat Monk all of 2 minutes for not rebounding, or maybe 3 rebounds is enough to stay on the court 38 minutes. Mulder played just 9 minutes and had 2 rebounds, too bad he is not one of Cals NBA projects. Just a reminder that team is 2-13 in a bad conference and missed 9 free throws and shot 36% for us to get a win. Glad Fox is ok, that was scary.

Our entire team played average. Bam excelled. Mizzou played their best at home and still loss by 10. If we play our best, then we get them by 25 plus. We didnt play well but still won. Move on.

    • WeareBBN
      11:53 pm February 21, 2017 Permalink

Mizzou played their best….lol…They shot 36%, 18% from three and only 60% at ft line. That Puryear guy missed layups. They did not play well, we did not play well. Difference is we got the 5 or so NBA players and they don’t, that is why fans expect better play and bigger wins. I want to win because of how played, not who we played. We won this game because of who we played.

What’s with the TV crew…. they have a “live update” on Fox’s injury, and she says he may not be able to return…and he’s sitting at the scorer’s bench waiting to come in.
Between the TV crew, the officials, and our sluggishness….that was weak entertainment.

People who think cal is a bad coach obviously don’t know what they’re talking about. Ever think that maybe it’s the players, it’s tough to coach a bunch of kids who think they know it all. You can’t coach players that don’t want to be coached and if you think that’s him being a bad coach then you probably should find a new sport to cheer for because you don’t know basketball.

    • WeareBBN
      12:00 am February 22, 2017 Permalink

He should recruit kids that want to be coached, he builds the team. He is great at doing what he is set on doing, recruit NBA players to get lots of draft picks each year. That is his stated goal and why he recruits only guys he thinks are one and done. You need good to very good veterans to win titles, we had it when we won since we had Miller and 2 Soph that went to Final 4 their Freshman year in Lamb and Jones so by the next title run they were basically Juniors in experience. Is the only time we had that veteran play and only time Cal ever won a title. If he could not win with the Towns, Booker team you have to wonder if he will even win another. We will be even younger next year than we are this year.

    • maximumscott

Oh you mean the Jones that was in and out of games that season that you all complained about his motor? Or the Darius Miller who rarely showed aggression. MKG and AD were the only sure things the whole year. Teague was even criticized as our Pg the whole year. Everbodys tune was different when we started NCAA tourny. Hindsight looks great on you.

You’re right… but remind me is there any other coach that has had his kind of success besides coach K. He’s the only other coach in college basketball that I would want besides cal. Anyone else would be a downgrade. Sure he could recruit players that are worse that will stick around for 4 years but I would rather be in the hunt every year for a title (minus NIT year) than be in contention 1 out of 4 years. Every kid in the top 50 in high school thinks they’re good enough for the NBA, not just the ones on our team

That was the worst game I have ever been too. I tend to think we have the best /worst fans. When we sat down a row full of KY fans were behind us. I was pretty excited and thought it would be fun. It turned out to be no fun. They were the most negative people and something mean to say about every player I finally turned around and told them how pathetic it is to be a 50 year man and dis a 18 year old. Grow up and have fun. It is not life or death. cheer like its your son playing out there.

Brightside is if We get that Bam from now on, sign me up. Bam didnt have a foul until the 2nd half and played arguably his most aggressive all year. It wouldnt surprise me if Cal told them before the game, no matter what this is how we are going to play and this is how we are going to win. At some point you will need an inside presence to win an NCAA tourny game. A la Indiana last year. This was a regulated practice with low effort bc well its Mizzou. Can you blame em? I mean if they come out with the same lack of energy on Saturday, then their is a problem. 23-5

Syracuse went to Final Four last year. They had 14 losses. Lost last 5 of 6. Then they get hot in the tourny and go to the Final Four. In telling you NcAA tourny knows no favorites and its anybodies game. Good players get shell shocked, others rise to the occasion. I still think come SEC tourny this will be a different looking team on a nuetral floor. I believe they are more comfortable in a tourny setting. Cream rises to the too.

This team is streaky. We should have beaten Missouri instead we played to their level. I hope this team proves me wrong but if it struggles like this,we are an early exit from the tourney. Right now Florida might win the sec tournament. My assumption is there are certainly chemistry issues within this team. They either don’t know how
