Cats Cruise to 85-61 Victory Over Bahamas in Atlantis Opener

Kentucky’s four-game exhibition excursion in the Bahamas started with a 24-point win.

Without John Calipari on the sideline, the young Wildcats sprinted out to a 13-0 lead behind the efforts of Sophomore Nick Richards, who finished with 19 points and only missed one shot. It was fun, until the sloppy play set in.  The halftime lead quickly evaporated as the Bahamas National Team tied it up five minutes into the second half.  However, the lull was brief, sparking the Cats to an entertaining win.

Reid Travis was rusty on the offensive end (2/9 FG), but grabbed every single rebound within reach (14 to be exact).  Tyler Herro was absolutely incredible, finishing with 16 points on 55 percent shooting.

Ashton Hagans showed off elite athleticism, even though it was not always contained.  Keldon Johnson made his first shot, but could not finish two powerful dunks. Every player had their moment, even Brad Calipari, who had a three-pointer touch every spot on the rim before rolling in.

Kentucky’s first game of the Big Blue Bahamas was a success.  We’ll see if they can do it again in 22 hours.

Never seen so many missed layups and dunks in my life, yet they still won by 24 against grown men. This team is gonna be scary.

I’m not disappointed but just not as high on them, hopefully game 2 changes my mind…. Richards & Herro look good but there is no way we dont need baker, we was terrible from outside with really really good shots, I hope baker gets healthy real fast & can shot the way all of his teammates say he can because we need him, 2-19 is awful, reid was a man on the glass & pj is going to be fine just our shooting makes me nervous…. I know it’s the first game but Keldon seems over hyped smh reminds me of diallo to lesser degree. At least diallo could stay in front of his man smh, Ashton look very good on the ball as a defender….. & Quade seems more comfortable running the offense than last yr but his outside shot has to fall…. lets goooooooooooooooo big blue win number 9

True, but from reading and hearing all this talk about him being the “Man” this season has to have some to wonder about his outside shooting. I know it’s Aug., but he’s had all summer not mention he’s a Soph. Was hoping I’m wrong, but outside of looking more confident ruining the offense, he’s not going to be much of an “outside” threat. I’m looking forward to this season, gonna see some struggles early on. No way is this team’s going 40-0 as TBW3011, stated below. It’s gonna be a fun year, but they’re not nearly talented as the 38-1 team was.

Quade’s shot has a lavar ball type release. The ball moves from right to left. I don’t remember that last year. Herro looked great 15ft and in, but his 3s didn’t just miss, most were total bricks. Johnson looked to be over playing, but he simply isn’t that athletic.

The team was sloppy and still won. They’ll get better as time goes on. Herro and Hagans have me excited. Go Cats!

We just watched a team that on any other 3 of 4 years wouldn’t see a game until October. Any issues that we, as a fanbase have are simply ridiculous “First Basketball World” problems.

I am on the porch in August, enjoying an Ale, listening to a basketball post-game show. . .in AUGUST.

It might be August 8th, but if you are a shooter it doesn’t matter what day of the year it is. The team they played is average or below at best. They may be grown men, but short on athletic ability and talent. If they could play the would be in in the NBA, Europe, or the D-league. We will see the same thing as the last couple years. The other team will play zone, shade to our shooters and pack it in, especially in conference.

Their top 3 players didn’t play. That’s only the national team by name.

We can score even if they pack it in with 3 bully’s and 2 shooters we just need to move the ball better get reps and confidence. We thought to much and made sloppy plays and just ahead of ourselves. And we won by a lot!!!
