Can someone explain to me how this is a foul on Isaiah Briscoe?

Screen Shot 2016-02-02 at 8.31.16 PM

To put it lightly, there have been a LOT of fouls in the game, some of them valid and some totally bogus. This foul on Isaiah Briscoe — his fourth — is definitely the latter:

I’m not one to blame officiating, but that was atrocious. Hopefully it’s not the play we look back at afterwards and shake our heads.

what does it matter? All the other STUPID reach fouls is ridiculous. U put Hawkins in and as soon as he gets in he commits 2 stupid fouls. U r sitting on the bench and see the way the refs are calling the game and u smack like its a backyard 21 game. This teams is the worst fouling team we have had at UK. I mean with just silly fouls beyond the ARC. We can blame this foul on the refs but what about the other 3? We should have dominated this team!

Dont me man. He end up with 25 PF. MAn I am as big of fan as anyone but that is just too much. U know as a player you see how the refs are calling the game. We cant blame this on the refs, home cooking or any other excuse…. WE HAD A 21 PT LEAD FOR GODS SAKES!!!!!!!!

Enough whining about the fouls. They blew a 21 point lead. Focus on that!!!!

During the run that ut erased thenlead they had 3 made fgs amd 15 made fts. During the same stretch uk shot 4 fts. But nope refs had nothing to do with it. Sick of watchimg one team get to play football while the other is supposed to play no contact ball.

For the first time this season I’m really disappointed in this team. I’ve been very positive, it seemed they were turning a corner. How did they just blow a 21 point lead?

Like I said after Kansas loss…this team will be lucky if they get a win in the NCAA tourny….same ole crap….poor defense…no one looks like they want to play. So what’s Cal’s excuse tonight….bet he doesn’t take the blame for this loss. IF we make tourny, we are a WEST seed…no way we get closer seed this year.

As bad as we have been jobbed by the refs the past 2 games, you will not see Cal blame the loss on the refs like the AMAZING Coach K or whiney Pitino.

Actually in the last 3 losses we have straight up outscored our opponents on points from FGM. The difference in those games were FTM. In each of our true road losses the home team shot 30+ FTs. In our two neutral court games the fouls and FTs were pretty much even. Our first three loses we just flat out got beat. Our last three loses we have offensively outscored our opponents. It’s been the FT line that has made the difference.

In UKs two neutral court games the fouls and FTs have been fairly even. UK in the last three loses has offensively outscored their opponents. The difference came at the charity stripe of which every home team has shot at least 30 FTs agains UK in their road loses.

big cat, you’re an idiot. you don’t watch the games, you clearly don’t know cal and i doubt you’re even a real uk fan… everything you just said is completely stupid. uk will play fine in the tournament because none of those games will be on the road in a hostile arena where uk can’t get a damn call to save their lives.

BTW, as bad as it looks right now, it looked just as bad in 2011 and 2014. Let that sink in for a minute, folks.

it actually looked worse… you think we would be one basket away from beating kansas IN phog in either of those years ?

You can say “don’t blame the refs” but we were rolling until they started blowing the whistle everytime a UK player got close to TN. I’ve seen it time and time again, it kills the momentum for the winning team and allows the losing team to get back in it and gain the momentum. That is exactly what happened tonight. There were too many calls like the phantom foul on Briscoe when the guy lands on his back.

The SEC commissioner needs to realize Kentucky is the standard bearer for the league, if we go down the whole league goes down. He needs to up the quality of the officiating and educate them on the fact the the same rules apply at both ends of the court. BTW…it was SEC officials at the Kansas game. How sad is that?

it’s not just the sec, this is a problem in every conference. but until the NCAA recognizes there is a problem, it can’t be “fixed”

We play tennessee again in two weeks and i can almost guarantee that will be a 25 point victory… a home court advantage should not swing 30 points in someone’s favor… but in college basketball it does.

Simple answer–Briscoe moved under the UT driver after, repeat after, he was in the air. It’s clearly a foul by Briscoe. The defensive player cannot move under the airborne driver and must, repeat must, give the airborne driver room to land without contact. Good officials will call this one each and every time.

    • wldktz1
      12:43 am February 3, 2016 Permalink

It wasn’t a foul. Briscoe was in that area before the shooter was even airborne.

If they always called silly contact fouls like that, I repeat, if they always called silly contact fouls like that, then there would be a foul call on nearly every single, I repeat, nearly every single play. Players would be looking, I repeat, players would be looking to fall into another player on every jump shot.

I don’t understand why Cal allows refs to continue screwing us over like this. Any of the other high major coaches would have gotten technicals, ejected, or went off in the post game. But Cal doesn’t say anything at all, and keeps taking it up the ass. Grow a pair, Cal!

because he doesn’t want to be a whiney little shit like coach k or pitino… guess it doesn’t serve him very well because fans of other teams don’t give him credit anyway

We did enough to beat ourselves tonight but the refs did us no favors. For the second game in a row I can’t complain a lot about what they called on us (Except for the Briscoe call) but I thought the home team got away with things on their end.

    • wldktz1

Every road game we have lost this year the home team shot 30+ FTs. Bother neutral court games the FT’s and fouls were pretty even.

I know what I would do if I were coach Cal. If the refs want the game to be about them. Then id let them have all the glory and pull my team off the court and go home. Let the refs explain to the mighty espn on why the game is not playing. In turn let espn explain to their sponsors why the rating for the game went to nothing.
Espn is the big problem. They have taken sports and made a monopoly of it. They pay huge contracts to the major conferences and in turn they want each game to come down to the buzzer. In a blow out game only KY fans would watch which equals poor ratings. In a game where UK is about to lose or in a close game most sport fans will watch to see if UK does lose. More viewer = higher ratings = more money made. So as of right now I will not watch another game on espn this season. That goes for all espn networks and ABC networks.

Billy, it matters big time at that point in the game. A good defender’s 4th foul takes away his aggression on defense. Overall, however, I agree with you about the reaches. That call was terrible!!!
