Calipari says Vanderbilt was unable to participate at combine

We now know a little bit more about Jarred Vanderbilt’s status.

In a conversation with Jerry Tipton at the combine, John Calipari confirmed Vanderbilt is physically unable to participate.

ESPN caught Cal when he showed up to see PJ Washington’s scrimmage.

An earlier version of this post said Calipari confirmed Vanderbilt had recently undergone surgery. I believe Calipari was actually talking about his own surgery and I misread Jerry Tipton’s report. That’s my bad. Classic case of being lazy on the Friday evening shift.

I hope he’s o.k.; but, you can bet the Trailblazers won’t make that mistake again.

Call it like you see it. The kid is made of glass. Hate to see it because he has all the talent in the world.

Hard to play with 1 ankle, but for sure hire an agent.

Conservative (I.e. non-surgical) treatment of an injury that is not working does not make a young person fragile, injury-prone or any of the other labels that have been hurled at Vanderbilt. I hope the surgery is successful, he gives it time to fully heal and continues on to a long and productive career at UK and beyond.

Wish him the best of luck but would love to see his rebounding numbers in a full healthy year at UK

At this point he needs to undergo a surgical procedure to make his lower extremeties robotic or incorporate more lower body weight training. His biceps are bigger than his quads.
Seriously though, why hasn’t he had surgery or started an intense rehabilitation program? If he chooses not to have surgery they should at least try stem cell or blood platelet treatments.

Why hasn’t anyone disclosed this injury ? It’s been 8 weeks since he was injured last & broken bones mend in that time . The fact that he didn’t immediately have surgery says to me that there is not gonna be one
